I heard there was an unofficial Sctatch chat room called [removed by moderator]. I joined it for a while and it wasn't friendly at all. Tree were swears in peoples status and language on the chatroom and they were saying stuff like, "Is he [me] normal or a ***" and "Who is this [removed by moderator]?" Plus they didn't seem to be kids at all, and one even told me they were a 45-year old pretending to be 10! All this made me feel kinda unsafe. Can someone tell me the "truth" or the story behind the chatroom or at least help me feel more comfortable?

Honestly, I think this chatroom is unofficial for a reason. The scratch team would never support that sort of activity on something that they're running! It's probably made by somebody else, and they decided to use scratch's name in the name of it. I bet the scratch team wouldn't be happy to find out that's happening.

There are a lot of unmonitored chats and forums out there that are using the name of Scratch that are not endorsed or supported by the Scratch Team. Unfortunately, some of them tend to use inappropriate language or otherwise act in ways that go against the Scratch Community Guidelines. For this reason, we no longer allow our members to advertise home-made sites until they have proven that they can provide an appropriate environment for an all-ages membership such as Scratch.
I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience. A certain amount of skeptical caution is important when exploring the internet.
