Well, it is (sometime in the not-so-near future). The human brain is just stored memories, electricity (nerves), problem solving, and speaking. Correct, it would take a supercomputer to power all of that. Like somthing out of Transformers. But, they don't exist!

In the future they might. Technology is progressing quickly. Ask any old person, most likely 67+

So, long story short, real A.I is possible in the not-so-near future.

Now, I hope you like this, because it took me a while to write it.

I didn't post this in my purple-ish color so it's easy to read.

I agree, because even our own brain is only so powerful. It doesn't have unlimited power. So technically, even though we are nowhere NEAR the capabilities of creating AI, it is possible.

An AI that can do everything a human can? That would take infinite "if" blocks in scratch. And a supercomputer to run it.

Impossible with modern equipment... maybe possible in near future, but still will not be as good as a real brain. Why? Try thinking up a script that lets a program think up 'ideas'. Ideas are non-existent in the binary world of computers wink

My dad's over 70, and he's fine. He has perfect teeth, and uses computers. Mostly to watch baseball, though. tongue
And black&white TV wasn't that far back. Yep, after some research, the first television that worked was made in 1928, 83 years ago. In around 1950, though, ordinary people bought televisions.

AI is not impossible. but we are at the point at which many of our research borders on morality. For example, AI could be somewhat beneficial, but what happens if they become TOO intelligent? In Portal, (I warned you) GLaDOS ends up killing all of the workers at Aperture science. Now imagine if GLaDOS was able to create more clones of herself? We wouldn't have much hope against a bunch of hyper-intelligent things that can't die.

Also, Portal guns. (I still warned you) Sure, it could save lives, but what happens if a criminal gets one?
*Shoots portal into house*
*shoots portal down*
*gets rich*

Anyways, If we have AI, we would never be able to realize its full potential. If an AI gets more intelligent than a human, I wouldn't count on being the dominant species for much longer.

Edit: on second thought, we might still be safe from invasion.

Ha ha, real AI will of course happen.
Look at this: A criminal that hates the world is intelligent.
The future.
He makes a robot. He makes the robot have knives and guns, and a motion/heat sensor. He makes it so that if the robot sees movement/heat, it attacks. Stuff like this exist-Motion sensors and heat sensors that work as alarms. It wouldn't be very hard to integrate in a robot. The thing is that it would probably waste a lot of money, and the movement part (To make the robot move) would be hard.

Television (Black and white). Actually, the first one was made before 1928, but it was pretty messed up (1923, I think...). And they got famous at 1940.

If you have a basic transmission system (binary..) and use it to transmit sets of signals that can be interpreted as commands (...more binary... ASM as well...) and a source of external feel (such can be done by sensors and binary) and lastly emotions (lots and lots of ASM), then you have A.I.
