Can I just go on record that I think that anyone who wants to go/live to Japan just for pop culture like bands and anime are misguided? I think going there because you have family or want a job or want to study they're history is okay, but Japan isnt about anime or any of that at ALL.

No. You're obviously not understanding this. Nobody should go to Japan for Pop Culture bands or anime. They should go because of anime. If you'd like to be in a band or create an anime, well,  No anime has ever been 100% produced in the U.S., So you should go. And the second half of what you said is equally right.
