Anonymous "Operation Facebook"

Recently, the hacker group "Anonymous" said they are going to launch an attack on November 5th, to 'kill' Facebook.

So, do you think it is legitimate? Is this really Anonymous, or is it just imposters? What do you think of the idea overall?

Discuss.

"Kill" = DDoS it for like 1 hour or something.

Re: Anonymous "Operation Facebook"

anonymous doesn't release their missions so it is obviously false. you got to jail for a few years if you release information on the missions

They're probably people that are addicted to Google + and are going to attack Facebook.

Like me. Some annoying yippy girl spread the rumor that the FB staff are going to arrest half my class for faking out age. We told her to shut up. So far, we haven't been arrested.

Yeah, pretty much, although they seemed to have expressed more serious intentions this time. Still, I have a hard time buying this. I highly doubt that Anon could permanently take down a site that big.

Anon could spam it up. They are legion, after all.

And if they get a large enough "legion", they could jam the servers for around a day. Thats' what I've hard, anyway.

The legal age to own a Facebook is 13:) Btw, there are way too many people that are under the legal age to own a fb to actually send out police. It is more of a trust situation. They have no legal way to know the real ages of everyone:)

I really like Facebook.. I just dislike it when people annoy me to death with multiple friend requests and messages at once.. Oh and pokes. >.<

if anonymous is really good enough (though i never heard of them) with ASM x86 or x64 they might really kill it but i dont think that facebook will have that less security , and to DDOS a server like facebook or google (it will require atelast a 1000 intel i7's with over 100mbps of web on each) because those server have
1. inbuilt ddos protection,
2. too much load capacity (thats basically the point where they will be ddoesed)

it really sounds to me like a prank by google+ users or some facebook haters. because in HACKING YOU NEVER WARN BEFORE YOU ATTACK (thats like making a lawsuit ready for you even before you do something)

Agreed! Facebook creators like Marc are expert hackers... They could probably hack myspace in a split second.  They probably have (1) multiple servers (2) hacking tolerance (3) common sense to look at the warnings...

I think FB has been dead for ages if you were to consider being full of spam as "dead." >_<

They could easily DDoS the server with a botnet, yes, but that would hardly be permanently killing it as they seem to be claiming.

rofl they aint Superhackers , hacking is different from programming (more precisely cracking) it requires ability to find bugs and weaknesses and not how would u make a creative thing !

Re: Anonymous "Operation Facebook"

I've heard "rumours" of Anon. were hacking Google. If people like these threaten to hack Facebook, then how come these amazing "hackers" apparently attempted and failed at Google, a company which has whole warehouses of data and top notch physical and internet security? If you'd be stupid enough to try and hack a multi-billion £ comany like Google, I'm sure it would be stupid to try and hack a multi-billion £ comapny like Facebook.

So, PSN got hacked, so what? Their security didn't work at the time and it wasn't the same hacking group who did the hacking. Plus, a far, far smaller bit of the population actually uses PSN compared to Facebook. And Facebook has security from the outside, anyway.

So, it's probably a rumour or Annonymous' last stand.

Re: Anonymous "Operation Facebook"

I personally believe that this is not Anonymous, but since Anonymous claims they are not a group, but rather a brain, the have to respond to any threat sent out by someone who says they're Anonymous.

The video threat was very low quality and used a different voice then most Anon videos, so I'm guessing it is just someone who wants to take down Facebook, but wants the support of a giant hacktivist group.

1)yes, it is legal. it is just illegal to hack communitys if they have another seccurity-wall then the password of the admin!
2)if they want to be anonymous, they ARE anonymous, everyone can join them just by wanting it!
