creepy commercial

it said
"if your toddler falls in the pool, you think you'll here this"
"splash, SQUEAL"
"but what you'll really here, is this."
"plop"

how do they know that a 3-year old wont make a noise when it falls in the pool? did they push a kid into a pool and watch him thrash around, not making any noise? and what toddler doesn't scream his/her head of after he/she's about to drown?

post what you think about this
____________________________________________________________________________________

Re: creepy commercial

I think that the commercial was completely right. When someone is drowning, they're not splashing around and yelling. (Think about it. If you can talk, you can breathe.) It's often extremely hard to tell when someone is drowning, because their arms are out under the water and their mouth may be only just submerged. As a result, they probably won't be in any obvious distress. I've heard stories of people nearly drowning mere feet away from someone else because the other person had no idea they were in trouble.

I think it's great that the commercial is trying to raise awareness for this.  smile

Re: creepy commercial

TVflea, please don't post in other languages. It really doesn't help communication or add to the conversation in any way. You should only use another language if you're discussing foreign languages or trying to help someone in the "Other Languages" forum. (Even in the case of a discussion about other languages, please use discretion. If you're just making another thread to post things in foreign languages, that's more of a TBG.)

Edit: Ah, I see in your other thread that you're trying to learn Swedish. That's all well and good, but still try to keep those kinds of posts in that topic, or at least provide a translation, okay?  smile

Actually, mods have a nifty little option to edit their posts without showing "edited by __" in the post. (Useful for correcting typos and the like.) ^_^ I just forgot to un-check the box for that option, which is enabled by default.

Re: creepy commercial

If a three year old falls into a pool with no one around, does it make a sound?

Seriously, the ad's right.

Re: creepy commercial

When I first read the title, it reminded me of a commercial I saw in Cananda.
It was about getting better pipes, I think, and at the end it showed a girl walking past a pipe, and it broke right at her face, quickly releasing all of the steam to it. Before we could see what happened to the girl's face, it went to a black screen with the company's name and the phone number.

And another commercial someone was talking about,

I think a boy was in a bathtub, wondering what it would be like if the water went up his nose. Then the water goes up in a stream into his nose.  yikes

Re: creepy commercial

you know, the commercial didn't say "drown" in a pool. it said "fell" in a pool. there's a good chance that kid went to swim lessons.

there is also a chance the child fell in the 3 feet zone and can jump back out.
