Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Do you think it would be appropriate for a 14 year old? I want to get it, but my Mom doesn't like games with excessive violence (Read: M Rated). Anyone play it? What do you think?

Re: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The reason Oblivion was rated M was because of a mod that allowed nudity in the game. The violence you will encounter throughout most of the game is very mild and even cartoon-like at times (blood can be disabled), but I do recall a few bloody textures in some caves, and there are also a few places with violent themes (like torture) to them. Most of the game's violence is concentrated within the Dark Brotherhood quest line, so if you're worried, you should avoid that.

But those are only single cases which can hardly classify the game as 'excessively' violent. If you want my opinion, some games can be dark and stressful to play without any visible gore, while some can contain violence and bloody scenes but overall have quite a bright theme. Oblivion in that sense is probably the happiest, most innocent and unicorn-prancing game you can find in that genre. I think you must absolutely get it, because it is a one of a kind RPG. ^^

EDIT: How could I have forgotten about the Oblivion planes? That's probably the only violent setting you'll be encountering often in that game. ^^" Now that I think of it, they are quite violent, depending on how you look at it. The Oblivion planes are basically like hell, complete with demons and all that. I suggest you just take a look at a few screenshots and see if you and your parents are ok with it.

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>
