Re: private messanger now

Re: private messanger now

The Scratch team doesn't want private messaging because it would be a very easy way to cyberbully others and would be very hard to moderate. Any feature like this on Scratch wouldn't truly be private messaging, since somebody would probably moderate everything you send.

@dreamtaker - don't copy what others have said. P.S. don't take away the dream of a pm system!

Re: private messanger now

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sometimes i want to send someone a link to something but i don't want evreyone to see it! It's stupid to not make this site have a pm system. Maybe we'll just make evreone join a site that you can pm with, but it would still be annoying having to go to 2 diffrent sites when you want to check your scratch stuff! besides, yambanshee has a point, you can add anyone who cyber-bullys you onto your ignore list, and then you can't be bottherd by him/her!

It's not just cyber-bullying that is a concern.  There are also online predators that could abuse a private messaging system.  It's a very real danger on a site like this that is used by so many minors.  Keeping all the messages public makes it more difficult for predators to operate.  This way everyone can keep an eye out for each other and flag any behavior that looks suspicious; such as someone trying to get phone numbers, email addresses or home addresses or set up meetings in the real world.

Re: private messanger now

Could have an option at account creation if you want to have the pm system hooked up to your account

Re: private messanger now

Maybe show the threads on the persons "My Stuff" page. just so you can talk to the person without hijacking a project.
