I am having trouble uploading projects the kids in my class have done. One is 115kb the other 2 mb. I took the larger one home to avoid the proxy server issue but it gave the same message i.e. data was sent, awaiting response then the Failed: Unknown reason message again. I would like to get a lot more uploaded. Any suggestions?

Well… This is the standard FAQ on problems with uploading projects: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic … 04&p=1. Perhaps something in that thread will help.
I also noticed that I've been logged out of Scratch several times tonight, so perhaps the Scratch site is currently having some problems.
Good luck.

Thanks for the link Digimath. I had tried all those including compression from the extras menu and have tried both my logon and the class logon several times. I also tried from my home computer over a few days now so am not sure what the problem is. Thanks for the heads up re your trouble with being logged out. I will keep trying. The kids have put so much work into them and are very proud of them. I am keen to get them up so they can show family at home.

Sorry to hear that your still having problems. I think your best bet now would be to email the Scratch support team
at scratch-try@media.mit.edu and explain the problem. (advice taken from the post:

I looked through your projects but only saw two projects that had comments. One project had one comment and the other had two. All three comments were from about two weeks ago. Do you know if there should be more comments?

Thanks again digimath. I will do that and attach a project.
I am assuming when they speak about "sounds" below and compressing them they are refferring to recorded "sounds" and not the "sound" button in the scripts. The projects have lots of speech bubbles with text using the sound button but no recorded sounds.
1. File too big (Solution: Extras menu > compress sounds, compress images)

They are actually taking about any sounds. The WAV and MP3 files that come with Scratch are all pretty small so if your students are selecting sounds from the default sound directories (Animal, Effects, Electronic, Human, so on) then that won’t add much to their projects. Of course Much larger WAV and MP3 files can be imported into a Scratch project which might cause a size problem.
If you haven’t tried this already, you might try un-checking the "compress sounds and images" box that appears on the "Upload to Scratch Server". (Having this box checked causes Scratch to do compression as it uploads the project to the Scratch web site.)

i tried everything to uplode my projects and still dousnt work "for unknown reason"
Well, that's not a lot of fun...
Could you try uploading one of the standard projects that come with Scratch, just to see if the reason it's failing has something to do with the project or something to do with your computer?
Are you trying to upload from a computer at School or some other public place? Sometimes they have proxy servers in place that can cause the upload to fail.

its not something to do with my computer because i tried 3 diffrent computers at home and it still doesnt uplode for unknown reason please help meeee !
Well, I'm trying. Have you tried uploading one of the sample projects yet? Did it give you the same error?

yes i tried and it gave the same error.
Okay...so now we know it is probably not your project that is the problem. And you say that you have tried to upload from 3 different computers in your house and they have all failed. I suspect you have a problem with your internet connection. it might be that you are using a proxy server or maybe you have a firewall that is preventing the upload.
Anybody else have any thoughts? How do we narrow it down any farther?
Maybe you could check with whoever maintains your computers and see if there is a firewall and if it can be turned off for a while to see if that fixes the problem?

Sosygirl,
One thing that’s been previously suggested by a Scatch admin for this type of problem was to try and upload a completely blank project. Please let us know if that worked or failed.
Also, is there any chance that your userid might be logged onto to the Scratch website from another computer?
Paddle2See,
If you know the IP address of Sosygirl’s computer you might try testing the link quality with a ping command or a traceroute (tracert) command. (If you happen to have a userid on an MIT computer, It would be better to do this from their site.)

I don't have access to the MIT servers...but I did try a PING from my PC. There was no response. However, that could just mean that the compute was powered down.

Are you still having problems? Have you tried contacting the Scratch team (there’s a tag to click on at the bottom of the page.)
