Ooh, a spec topic! It should be interesting to see what everyone else here is running.
Mah specs:
Phenom II x4 945 @3.0 GHz
4GB DDR3 (soon to be 12GB) @1333 MHz 9-9-9-24 timing

WD Caviar Green 750GB HDD
ASUS M4A78T-E Mobo
Thermaltake TR2 430W PSU (Will be an Antec HCG-750 750W. Again, parts on the way from Newegg.)
Simplified, for the non-techies:
Quad core processor @3 GHz
4GB RAM (soon to be 12GB)
Radeon HD 3300 integrated grahpics (Radeon HD 6870 once the parts I ordered come in)

Yeah. I bought all the parts from Newegg and put it together myself. You get exactly what you want and don't have to worry about cheap, fail-prone parts that way, not to mention there's no bloatware to be concerned with and you can actually save money if you know what you're doing.

@Harakou How do you get 12GB of RAM? I thought 8 was the max?
Eh, my computer is starting to get outdated, even though it's only 1 year old. Crazy, isn't it? Speaking of specs:
Win7 Pro x64 (5.9 base score, 6.54 avg)
2.8 GHz AMD Athelon Dual Core processor
Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard
2GB of SpeedMax RAM, 4GB of something else (6GB total)
Radeon Sapphire HD 5570 1GB video card
500GB Western Digital HDD (Blue)
[company name here] 750W PSU (power supply unit)
LiteOn External CD Drive, 40X, Lightscribe, all that fun stuff
Antec case with a fan on top and side. Cooler-Max or something like that
Logitech Webcam Pro 9000
19" Samsung SyncMaster 940BW @ 1440x900 pixels
Not the best ever, but it does what I want it to.

The max in what sense?
My motherboard has four DIMM slots, two of which are currently holding 2GB modules for a total of 4GB. I'm going to add a 4GB module to each of the remaining slots to bring the total up to 12GB.
Also, that PSU of yours is really overkill, isn't it?

My Desktop PC is an HP Pavilion Elite e9107c, I've upgraded a few things so far.
specs:
Pegatron IPIEL-LA3 (Eureka3) Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @2.3GHz 1333 MHz bus speed
Nvidia Geforce GTX 465 PNY XLR8 Performace Edition GPU w/ 1024MB GDDR5 on-board frame buffer and DirectX 11 support(Bought new off ebay)
DiabloTek PHD Series 550W PSU(Bought new off Amazon)
750GB HDD
8GB DDR3 RAM
SuperMulti DVD Burner w/ LightScribe
That setup will run NFS Shift in 1920x1080 with everything maxed out at 50-60fps easy.
My internet speeds are embarrassingly slow, lol.

Lol, a 750GB Hard drive is pretty tipical for a $500-$700 Desktop PC, for $750 and up you can even get up into the Terabytes.

I would guess so, but at least I don't have to worry about running outta power for anything.
And as for the RAM, let me spin your question around. Isn't 12GB of RAM overkill? I mean, 6 seems plenty to me, although I would like 8.

Yeah, that's true about the PSU. Mine's a bit overkill too, (albeit not as much as yours) but if I ever want to crossfire I'm all set.
12GB is probably way more than I need, but I wanted to upgrade anyway, and since this will fill up all my RAM slots, I want to make sure I don't have to worry about upgrades for quite a while. Besides, RAM is cheap. I could have bought maybe 4GB, but 8GB was only like $20 more.
4GB doesn't quite cut it when just running Windows 7 x64 with a few programs open eats up 2GB. If you're running a game with DX9 or lower your video card's RAM has to be duplicated to your system RAM, with basically limits you to 1GB left over for the actual game. Some games definitely take more than that.
In short: Yeah, 12GB is overkill, but I like to make sure I have enough.

Comcast. The speed really varies depending on the day, but when it's fast, it's blazing. (Note that mbps is not the same as mb/s. Mbps stands for "megabits per second." A megabit is about one eighth the size of a megabyte. In actuality I'll get 1-2 mb/s, depending on the host of the download.)

The amount of benefit your can get from large amounts of RAM is limited by processor speed. With a quad core you should not have too much trouble getting the most out of your RAM, but lots of code is still optimized for single core processors which may have a limiting effect on your speed.
Anyway, my laptop for high school:

9 cell Li-Ion Battery - 55++

It's a bit longer than most. (7.1" x 5.9" x 3.4") It's actually on sale for $90 ($40 off) on Newegg right now. According to Anandtech it's well built and performs well, with stable voltages and good efficiency.

Lol! But then again some people like a whole Terabyte to work with. But a Petabyte, that really is excessive.
1. a terabye is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, or 1,000 Gigabytes.
2. a petabyte is 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes (1 Quadrillion) or 1,000 terabytes.
3. Don't even think about a Yottabyte, which is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes (1 septillion) bytes, or 1 quadrillion gigabytes.
