GarageBand Scratched

Just a little idea I and Death_Wish came up with discussing my Guitar Amp Simulator (see sig). I've been checking out this demo of GarageBand for iPad 2 and I thought that it'd be great to create something inspired by that on Scratch  big_smile

I haven't had the chance of trying out GarageBand properly (only once on a MacBook, but all I really did was play some piano  tongue  ), but I suppose we could base it on the iPad version shown above - let the user play instruments (keys, guitar, bass and drums), in a way that makes it easy for both actual musicians and people who don't play instruments. The user will also be able to compose whole songs using preset riffs or his/her own riffs.

So, anyone interested?  smile  I can record guitar and bass sounds, and simulate drums and synth using Addictive Drums and various other plugins. I think I'll seriously need someone to make a decent interface though.

Members:

Programming:
-jslomba
-Death_Wish
-technoguyx (might do some stuff still  tongue )

Art/Interface:
-Zeusking19 (main menu)
-MrScoop (timeline)

Sound:
-technoguyx (recorded guitar/bass, simulated drums and keys/synth)
-a1130 (piano)

Planned features:

-4 instruments: Guitar, bass, drums and keys.
-A "jam" mode where you play freely, and a "compose" mode where you create your songs.
-Preset riffs, and user riffs which can be stored in a list.
-Importing/Exporting songs and riffs?

I would be interested to join. If you need a main menu system,  i can do that for sure.

I'm really interested, but I haven't got a clue how to play or read music- I might be able to make some graphics for the timeline though- if you'd like my help  smile

Re: GarageBand Scratched

Well, you both are in then  smile  For the main menu system, some buttons with each instrument (keys, guitar, bass and drums) would be fine, and another for a "composing mode" (we should give it another title lol) where you can put your riffs together. Something simple, that's what makes Garageband great.

The timeline should, well, be kinda like the original Garageband's  tongue  Not much to say about that. I'm likely taking care of all the sounds so don't worry about that  smile

I could help out if you'd like, though I'm not sure I'd be able to help too much.

C'mon, let's start working. I don't want this collab to die like most of them do.

So far I only have the piano done, working on the drums. The bass and guitar will be much harder D:

Hmmm, I'll upload a version with piano and drums only, not sure if you could do something with that.

EDIT: done yay.

I'll try to make a better version, as some of the sounds don't make sense, like the hi-hat when open does a tom sound  tongue

Yes. The flash player MIDI sound bank is waaaaaay too basic since they're still testing it.

idk really, the guitar and bass might need some theory knowledge to make them easy to play. Maybe do something in the create mode?

I'll try to do the guitar. I'll probably fail, though. Too bad there isn't a stretch block anymore, I'd use that to strum the guitar  tongue

Do you guys need piano sounds? I have a good piano, so I think it would be good. The MIDI soundfonts are just horrible...

An "acoustic" piano? Feel free to give it a try  wink  I could perhaps start figuring out how to do it with those sounds maybe.
