I have no idea how this happened see for yourself http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/jonxbox/1941927
I was just running firefox and scratch at the time(so this couldn't be a memory issue). I updated a project I was working on and I saved and uploaded. During mid-upload, the text that's supposed to say "waiting for server" or something dissapeared but I thought nothing of it. When the upload finished ALL of the text that existed in my project was erased. That includes all the text in sprites, all broadcasts, all sprite names, all variables, the project name, and even the text in the scratch interface!
This http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5558/majorbug.gif is what it looked like
EDIT: just looked through the forums woops this bug is already reported. Although I have more information. When I attempted to close scratch it would not work. As if the X button didn't exist! I had to close it through task manager. When I reopened scratch I got the error message "Stub recieved bad data" I tried again and it ran perfectly. But maybe this is a clue to why scratch gets this bug?
EDIT 2: Great news! My project is A-OK and the save file is in perfect condition. This has to be a bug related to uploading...
