Someone a few weeks ago was suggesting "cosmic blobs" as a great and easy to use software to create 3D models and animations. Unfortunately that software is out of business since january 2008.
So I would love to know from you guys which is the easiest and smarter software to create 3D models and animations. I mean, a FREE (hopefully) and simple-as-scratch (hopefully) package.
PS: I know of Blender/Gimp/Panda3D, but I don't see them as "easy" softwares. Am I wrong? Is there an imagine-program-share-like tutorial that illustrate how simple it is to use them?

ALright, I would have said Blender (even thoguh it crashes and freezes my computer), but deatheater recently got me started with Terragen. It's for terrain creating, but it's actually pretty cool. I don't know the site though (but it's free). To show you the simplicity: You draw either in gray scale or color, each color representing a different height. Than you place the cameras and render it. That's all I know so far

I went to Terragen site (http://www.planetside.co.uk/) and, I don't know if I need some a terrific realism but... it is really cool! I will certainly test it. And what about easy 3D modeling of things and human/animals?

Well, there I'm stuck. The only other 3d thing I know is Alice. I saw one called LightWave 3d I think, but Idon't know if it's free

Though the rendering was weird. Not what I saw at least

There are several sites selling an OEM version of Cosmic Blobs. Of course there is no support but for $14 dollars... I think if you Google OEM Cosmic Blobs several vendors will show up.

Here's another thought. The program SmoothTeddy probably has too few features to be useful but it is free and fun to play with. The web site says "You can make rotund 3D models such as teddy bears quickly, and paint them in an integrated environment. The resulting 3D models has hierarhical joint structure, so you can use them for animation projects like Alice."

Thanks Digimath! It was a long time I was looking for something similar to this application. That guy Igarashi is to me a real genius. This is how I think graphics and animation should embedded in a product for naive pc users such as Scratch. I looked also to his prototypes for drawing and animate things. So cool!!!!!! I suggest a close look at Igarashi's home page at http://www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/. I think there is a lot to learn from for all scratchers.

You could also use Google Sketchup. (sketchup.google.com)
It doesn't do animation, but you can pan around the camera and take a movie of it. I even figured out how to make it save as a sequence of images to upload to Scratch.

Really? I tried it but it didn't seem to me very intuitive. But I'm interested to all new technologies. Would you mind posting a brief tutorial? Thanks in advance

Hey there is one called Anim8tor. It isn't that simple but it is really good and you can make animations to. If you have vista though i wouldn't be that great because i had it for a while and froze and gave all sorts of problems. Just thought i would let you know that for something to try.

I use Art Of Illusion, and It's never failed me. To see what is possible go to my gallery: web.mac.com/michael_mac_i/iWeb/
If you are having problems with it, go to friendlyskies AoI Forum, that will give you a shove in the right direction. Also what's good about it is the animations are frame by frame, so the end result is lots of JPEGs, perfect for putting in scratch.
I used AoI for my Zombie Hunter 3.1 Cutscenes, take a look at that.
