I... Don't... CARE!

My parents always bug me about how much I need to work out and go on long hikes, play sports and do tons of stuff I don't care about.
Unlike other people, I don't care about what other people think of me, I don't care about how strong or fast I am. I just don't care!

Ok. Take your dog(or lizard) for a walk and that might satisfy them?

If you don't care about yourself, you'll die. You do need to exercise to survive.

Re: I... Don't... CARE!

What veggieman said but a little less harsh - obviously always being at the computer and doing not much else isn't good, the exercise is not because people will think of you as someone better, it's for your own good.

...But this just reminded me I haven't worked out in a while lol. I will  smile

Re: I... Don't... CARE!

I don't need exercise, because I lug my bag up to my class by staircase every day I go to school, including my extra Saturday lesson. Meaning I lug a 10kg backpack stuffed with books and trod up twelve flights of stairs.

Well, it's kind of a parents job to try and encourage children to improve themselves, both mentally and physically.  They want you to be happy and succeed at your goals and apparently they feel that a certain amount of physical conditioning will help you do that.  Try not to get too upset about it...just realize where they are coming from.

One approach to dealing with it would be to explore active options that you do enjoy...and then you can point out that you are being active.  My kids both got involved in sword fencing in a big way - probably so I wouldn't keep bugging them about getting out there and paddling kayaks with me  smile

Re: I... Don't... CARE!

I have to go on 6 mile hikes with my family, and I have asthma, and during the school year I have Gray's Anatomy, the Complete Works of Shakespeare and my DOS book. It weighs, total, about 10 pounds.

BTW, not exaggerating about 6 mile hikes. We went on one, and my sister threw up...

So I get plenty of exercise between going hiking, swimming, and carrying my bookbag all over my huge, newly expanded school.

I've been on 5 mile hikes before. I got a little tired, nothing else. It's not a big punishment, hikes are great ways to see nature.

It wasn't a punishment, but it was blistering hot, 93 degrees with barely any shade on an overlook. We had a picnic, and it wasn't too bad, but my sister was vomiting from the heat and stress.

Well that's not good, I've gotten sick from heat before.
You have to drink a lot of water constantly if it's that hot outside.

She also drank some powerade/gatorade and some water. The hike was uphill, downhill, loop-de-loops... We sat on top of a cave. It was one of the only shady places we sat at. Then, we went just a bit higher, to 1101 feet above sea level, to Sloss Peak. Then we did a return trip... ouch, that wore me out.

We you say "hike" you basically just mean a walk? Not a 6 mile run or anything?

Re: I... Don't... CARE!

meh, hike's aren't even bad, considering you can get water and everything. Runs will kill you.

I do think that your parents are a little overworking you, since you have asthma, but oh well.

10 pounds isn't much for a backpack. Mine is 3 times that weight.

It doesn't matter if you don't care what people think of you. Health is health, regardless of other humans.

Re: I... Don't... CARE!

I actually made a commitment to myself to work out at least 30 minutes a day yesterday, and today is my first day  smile  I'm gonna play Wii Fit today  big_smile  I think I'll jump on the trampoline tomorrow, and take a walk with my mom the next day  smile

Excercise keeps you healthy, and even if you don't CARE about how other people think of the way you LOOK, health should be important doesn't just affect your appearance, it also affects your ability to be functional at all.

It does seem that your parents are kinda pushing you too hard  hmm  I have athsma too, so I can relate  smile

Here in Texas, its usually 106-108 degrees.

That's why my exercise of choice is swimming  tongue
