I'm learning German too, and I'm doing pretty well. I'll give you some tips.
First off, you should purchase an English-German Dictionary. Its just handy to have.
Also, DON'T use Google Translate. I did that at first and it was terrible (though I didn't realize.)
Here's a video series I used: http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=zZAWygYoN30
Links to the nest lessons are on the vid. (Sorry, its not in Repeat. I tried)
I also watched this, it's interesting:

Watching people speak German in normal context actually helps. If you watch it multiple times, you will eventually be used to what those phrases generally mean.
As a last thing, I'll personally help you with simpler things such as the alphabet and the numbers if you want.

I'll answer specific questions if I know the answer, but I don't think teaching a language is something you can do on forums.

A German teacher. Otherwise you could get a book, or take a course online, or get Rosetta Stone or something.
I'm learning Esperanto, and I got a book.

I speak Afrikaans as a first language, which is as near to German that you can get without actually learning German. English is my second language.
English to Afrikaans:
Yes -> Ja
No -> Nee
Please -> Asseblief
Thanks -> Dankie
Funny -> Snaaks
English -> Engels
Learning this will probably also help you in German.

Nein. Nein ich kannst.

Thank You - Danke (Dunk-uh)
Sorry - Traurig (Trow-rig)
Man - Herr (Hare)
Woman - Frauline (Frow-line)
1 - Ein (Ine)

11 - Elf (Elf)

What - Was (Vass)
Where - Wo (Voh)
When - Wenn (Ven)
Why - Warum (Varoom)
How - Wie (Vee)

And here is how you pronounce the German alphabet:

That should get you started. Memorize that, and your doing well already. I could post some verbs if anyone found that useful.
