The government should be trying to fix itself right now, not ruin people's internet life for an extra buck.

Such America, said to be land of the free, is now infringing our freedom of internet usage for monetary uses.

I doubt anyone really gets this bill at all.

This bill will probably not affect most users of the internet, as so much people upload things on the internet with copyrighted material every day, it's nearly impossible to enforce that. Additionally, it must be proven that you are somehow making the company who produced the game/music/tv show/movie/any other copyrighted material lose $2,500. This can be somewhat hard to do. (but it's certainly not impossible.)

The main people who will get affected are people who actually make money off of sites like youtube, mainly youtube partners. Many youtube partners upload game footage, such as Machinima. If they make at least $2,500 off of their videos (which isn't that hard to do, believe it or not), then they'll probably liable to be sent to jail.

There's also the fact that this essentially violates the Fair Use law. Which allows anyone to use limited copyrighted works in their videos, as long as their is mostly original content (such as commentary, and other things). This law could make it potentially illegal for a youtube partner to use copyrighted music during a video, make parodies of a copyrighted work, or even something like doing a cover of a song. These all are considered legal under fair use. Yet this bill states that these actions are illegal if you gain at least $2,500 out of it. This is a complete contradiction.

And it's useless to say that a law like this won't be passed, as many of today's lawmakers simply do not understand the internet and how it works. How should they know about "youtube partners" and other stuff like that. This bill already has support from both parties, and can probably pass.

I mostly oppose this bill as it can cause a lot of problems for the internet in the long run.
