Banjo Kazooie games had the best music, and I mean the original ones, not the new one with gameplay that doesn't even correspond with the old genre of Banjo Kazooie.
I still get a kick out of the Team Leader Fight music from Pokemon R/S/E

Too bad he doesn't play Kingdom Hearts. Listen to Hikari or Passion (or both) (also Simple and Clean; Sanctuary) and you'll change your mind about video game music.

Yeah, a lot of it is. Most of it is just designed to go along with the game, which is fine, but they make no effort to make it catchy or anything. And when they do try it's some terrible pop song. (I'M LOOKING AT YOU SEGA.)

Lots of video game music is rather generic, yes.
I actually play a lot of my games with the music off, just because it makes it easier to hear what's around me. (Ever had a creeper blow you up because you couldn't hear it? I have. >.<)

It depends on what game it is. But 8bit music will always be the best.

Kingdom Hearts has the best music ever.
I love the Halloween Town music, even though they did take it from somebody else who I forget.

I hate Pokemon's music just because it's so repetitive.
RPG music can get old the 500th time you've played a game :T

Since when did it turn horrible? It's less retro but that doesn't mean it's horrible. In fact, I think video game music is awesome now, especially the way they mix hard rock with orchestra to make it feel extremely epic (Sonic 06: Solaris Phase 2, for example).
And I think it's because of how people grow older. I think the music hasn't changed, it's the people who have. It just so happens that this isn't the case with me.
