Hello everyone, the name's Late-Bit. I thought I'd introduce myself before I go on to make some projects. I have a few projects planned out but I'm open for ideas.
Anyways, I hope to stay here for awhile until I get the hang of how things work and then move up onto Flash.

Hello, Late-Bit! I hope you enjoy Scratch and eventually achieve your goal of working in Flash!

Welcome to Scratch! I hope you have a great time here. But, I've got to tell you some things-First, using Scratch won't help you in Flash, as Scratch doesn't use code. Second, I'd recommend using Java before Flash, personally.
Well, try not to get too addicted to the forums, it usually makes people not program as much.

Unfortunately, you're wrong, Scratch will help with flash as it teaches many basic principles of programming that it is hard to learn in other ways. Flash and java are used for different purposes and I would say they are both good at doing different things.

Actually Scratch does help if you use stencyl
I might also branch into Stencyl before Flash, I'm not really sure yet. The Stencyl community also looks nice and the interface looks easy to pick up.

Well, yeah, that yeah. But, it doesn't help with actually programming, as it includes no code
And Java may be for different things, but all in all, you can basically do the same. The difference is that
1) Java goes slower
2) Java uses more RAM
3) Java's easier
4) You can upload Flash to kongregate, armor games, etc., while with Java you can't. Flash is better, but I'd recommend Java first because it's easier, and then it'd be easier to learn flash, as adapting from Java to Flash isn't that hard.
You just need to System.out.println

I'd rather go along with Flash. I realize that Scratch wont help me with Flash, but I just want to try out this language and make a few games as sort of a warm up for bigger things I'll be doing in the future.

You also could transition from Scratch to Stencyl to Flash.
