You could try using something like tinyurl to replace a link - for example, if you wanted to link to http://scratch.mit.edu/tbgforums/viewforum.php?id=46 but the link was too long, you would create a tinyurl link for it (eg. tinyurl.com/abcdef1).
I've never used tinyurl, so sorry if my explanation wasn't too good
