To all you enviroment nerds

Let me tell you about our planet. Our planet is four and a half billion years old. There has been life on this planet for nearly that long. Three point eight billion years. The first bacteria. And, later, the first multicellular animals, then the first complex creatures, in the sea, on the land. Then the great sweeping ages of animals-the amphibians, the dinosaurs, the mammals, each lasting millions upon millions of years. Great dynasties of creatures arising, flourishing, dying away. All this happening against a background of continuous and violent upheaval, mountain ranges thrust up and eroded away, cometary impacts, volcanic eruptions, oceans rising and falling, whole continents moving...Endless constant and violent change...Even today, the greatest geographical feature on the planet comes from two great continents colliding, buckling to make the Himalayan mountain range over millions of years. The planet has survived everything, in its time. It will certainly survive us.

Let's say we had a bad nuclear disaster, and all the plants and animals died, and the earth was stinking hot for a hundred thousand years. Life would survive somewhere-under soil, or perhaps frozen in Arctic ice. And after all those years, when the planet was no longer inhospitable, life would again spread over the planet. The evolutionary process would begin again. It might take a few billion years for life to regain its present variety. And of course it would be very different from what it is now. But the earth would survive our folly. Life would Survive our folly. Only we think we wouldn't. Anyone to challenge this?

Maybe if you gave the people some sort of question in the first post or anything that can spark discussion, there doesn't seem to be anything visibly available to reply to in your topic so far. It seems more like an Earth history lesson right now.  smile

I want this closed. It like... Directly opposes what I believe. Right? See... If politics/religious stuff was re-allowed then we could talk about this sort of thing.

Re: To all you enviroment nerds

planets do not "die" because a planet live. To say earth is dieing is to say my gold fish climbed out of his bowl made him self coffee then decided to walk his pet rock. It doesn't happen. Earth can be destroyed yes, but it would take some work. We will die out before everything else dies out on Earth.

This isn't politics or religion. I don't think we can close this just because you don't believe in it.

GameHutSoftware didn't say we don't have to respect the environment. He just said that if someone really stupid blows us all up, we'll all turn into aliens. :P

I said that the earth is not in danger. Humanity might be in danger, but life and the earth aren't.

So your saying that, no matter what happens, the earth will survive. Now the nuclear disaster thing- Yes their is a big chance life will flourish after one. But people are selfish, and they don't want to die. Do you think your body is strong enough to survive a nuclear disaster? So the earth may survive, but the humans sure probably won't.

EDIT: sorry, didn't see your last comment  tongue  same exact thing I said.

Re: To all you enviroment nerds

Well, Tesla worked out how to crack the earth in half (I'm serious). And also, the earth would be in very very poor shape after a nuclear war. A nuclear war would only last a few hours, maybe a day or if we're unlucky.

Humanity, not life.

I don't want to argue, but us 'environment nerds' are simply helping the planet to make sure that doesn't happen.
