Guys seriously.

*cough* This topic is for people who came here to learn programming or animation or something like that if you didn't then scram *cough*

I think this site seems to have lost track of what it was supposed to be: A site for learning programming. I don't give a fig about what shape the programming comes in; Basic animation, Simple games, Mathematic visualizations, doesn't matter. What isn't programming is coloring contests and that [EXPUNGED]. But seeing as those little kitty-worshiping weirdos probably aren't here for programming and have no interest in it, I decided to post in here, where most people care about it at least a little. My point is not to yet again ramble about coloring contests and that sort of thing, I want to present this: This site is intended to be a stepping stone. And what I want you people to do is finally move onward. Anyone here who has at least 1000 or so posts or has been on for more than a year should sit up and listen to this post. You people need to begin thinking about what to do after this site. Do you want to pursue the games software design or computer science side of the site that you may have taken an interest in? Go learn C++ or Python! Or, even better, both! I even already started that. Want to learn about animation more? Go get Flash and learn it! Can't afford it? Then go get a bloody pencil and scanner. Are you one of those kitten worshipping coloring mice I mentioned before? SHOVE OFF AND GO TO DEVIANTART YOU- I apologize. *ahem*

Anyway, you people must consider what you will do after this site. Please discuss such things here, I feel this topic had to be made urgently.

Re: Guys seriously.

Scratch is whatever you make it to be. Its original intended use was a way to teach children basic programming, but it's become so much more. The community has its own culture, and it's frankly quite interesting. I don't see a problem with using Scratch for real, serious programming. Many people have done it.

I don't see a need for people to move on. If you need to move on, that's fine. But most of the people on here don't need to make decisions like that; after all, most of us are still young.

No and no, as I eventually found out music is my thing and I'm likely going to study sound engineering or if I'm really lucky, make a living out of my own music. I used Scratch only for fun, and I barely use it now  tongue

But I do agree with the bit about kitten-worshiping people.

I kinda do see the need. I'm getting seriously concerned about how many users say "I'll never stop" and just stay at Scratch and make no further attempts to learn something more advanced. And yes I agree the culture is (mostly) interesting and exciting, and I don't say to exactly drop everything and leave, you can stay and help new users to help them out. I remember when JeanTheFox joined. She started out as the atypical Sonic fan, developing the typical Sonic fan characters, but then I asked her if she could try something more original. She eventually did and met some success on here with it, and even though I don't know if I had anything to do with it, I like to think I did. Anyway, I just think it is good to start young.

I don't like the kitten-worshipping people.

Anyway, I only use this for the forums. I've moved on to C++ and my friend has moved on to Java. Another friend now uses GameMaker, though in a very serious way.

I still use Scratch, but I just make little animations on there to hold me some time for completing a game I'm making........  wink

Re: Guys seriously.

I'm getting better at Scratch now, and hoping that once I complete a few more games I'll move on to Flash. The community here is getting somewhat annoyting, for lack of a better word.
I already tried Flash at school, and created some screensavers and an animation.  big_smile

As for the RPGs, we should kick them out onto their own site where the fromt page won't be littered with 'Starclaw Bio' and 'Magicpaw storyyyyyy' type projects. :L

Never leave Scratch. I do do other stuff actually java, C, visualbasic.net, flash, php ect but I still use Scratch while I'm pursuing computer science.

That isn't the point. The point is what are you going to do after Scratch.

Not really sorry. I just do scratching for fun. I think that other people will agree that not everyone on scratch has to be a programmer as a job.

I just don't like the fact animations are always looked down on. They may be basic, but cmon.

I meant animations are usually considered lower than games and such. Higher than art contests but yeah. Heres what I think the Scratch Project chain is:

Complicated Games
Games (Like platformers)
Games with an animation
Animation with a game
Animations
Shorter Animations
Art
Coloring Contests
Updates

Well, more like this:
Complicated Games
Really Complex Animation that is Well Drawn
Games (Like platformers)
Games with an animation
Animation with a game
Animations
Shorter Animations
Art
Updates
Coloring Contests

I put coloring contests at the bottom because I have never seen anyone get famous from a coloring contest.

Hopefully make YouTube videos and maybe get into computers.

Or be an actor, since people say I'm good :B I can't use some jokes on Scratch since they aren't kid-friendly. With YouTube, I can do anything really. So I will move onto that and I am making a movie right now(IRL).

So I think I have a lot of choices since I do get good grades.
