Why you guys hatin' on CoD? Some people just like violent video games, respect their opinion.

Re: Ridicule and insult based on what games we play.

lol, I was choke slamming, shooting at things, causing insane skateboard-related accidents, and hi-jacking cars when I was like, 5. I kinda was ahead of my time in "maturity level", as only recently have I discovered game series I grew up with, but ignored. A gamer should be a gamer for the games s/he plays no matter what the age, regardless of what other people think about it. I know I'm one of the few people in the world who still plays Guitar Hero everyday, and am just fine rocking out solo.

In fact, I have noticed rather a lack of creativity in games as of late. Through either lack-luster level design, boring game play, or something else, all games are becoming "one". Take Metro 20##. The first one had no multiplayer anything, but an outstanding single player experience. Look at the sequel. It's getting (what seems to be forced/slapped on from what I read) multiplayer, like that of CoD. Where's the originality? Why do games always have to go and follow the same route? I guess that's just Western thinking. All games should have some sort of UGC mode, like inFamous 2 or LBP to really make the game stand out and thus more enjoyable and unique. And so ends my theory that all games are pretty much the same. I know it's not perfect, but I could really care less.

So, after about 30 minutes of thinking, writing, editing, thinking some more, and proofreading, I am done. But let me restate something:
A gamer should be a gamer for the games s/he plays no matter what the age, regardless of what other people think about it.
That, if nothing else, should be the take-away from this. In fact, I think this may, more or less, restate the OP in less words (maybe not, but who knows?).

Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, Closer To God, The Downward Spiral, Further Down The Spiral, The Perfect Drug, The Fragile, And All That Could Have Been, With Teeth, Year Zero, Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D, Ghosts I-IV, The Slip, Pretty Hate Machine 2010

It wasn't a bad game as such, but there's no real skill in it! It's too easy! And then every game copied it for some reason. (Except for Valve.  big_smile )

lol  That pic! They're wearing pokewalkers.

I love playing Pokemon, because the games are soooooo epic. But, I just went through 7th grade, hardly talking to anyone. When I accidentally told this really (and I mean REALLY) fat, and out of shaped, hardcore COD fan I liked Pokemon, he would be a huge jerk, saying stuff out loud to me about Pokemon. He even once told everyone that he saw me at Gamestop looking at Pokemon and MegaMan games. (I did see him, but this was the day I bought my 3DS, and I was getting games for it. ( I don't even like MegaMan. Its not that I hate it, I've just never played it, or barely know what it is.)

Halo didn't ruin the FPS's; it introduced lots of new ideas to the genre and is still a memorable game today. As for "every game copying it", I see far more clones of CoD than Halo nowadays. I'm not really going to say much about skill because that's something we could go 'round and 'round about, but I will say that it requires more skill than some games.

Well look: First thing most people talk about is the 2 weapons thing. That's not fun, that's just annoying and inconvenient! I like having lots of alternatives to choose from! And now tons of games do it!

Well, it's realistic and forces you to make tactical weapon choices. It adds an element of strategy, especially in the campaign where you may need to make do with one versatile weapon because you need the other slot for a weapon that will be useful later.

"Realistic?" How about one shot to the head and the system wipes it's hard drive? That's realistic. Plus it's not even very tactical in how it's implemented, everything is just cannon fodder!

Maybe for singleplayer/campaign, but one of the main attractions about the halo series (and other fps's) is the multi-player, and being able to carry more then 2 guns in multi-player would suck because there'd always be this one guy in each match who would rush for every power weapon on the map and take them all (meaning there'd be one guy roaming around with a shotgun, a rocket launcher, a sniper rifle, and any other power weapons on the map)

Look, in TF2 you start with every weapon your character can use with full ammo. And it works perfectly fine.

In TF2 you have classes which can use only a certain amount of weapons, however in other fps's, such as halo, you don't have classes and so each person can use every type of weapon. So imagine in TF2 if a pyro got the heavy's weapons, the snipers weapons and the soldiers weapons, it wouldn't be very fun playing with that one guy who was on the other team.

"Realistic?" How about one shot to the head and the system wipes it's hard drive? That's realistic. Plus it's not even very tactical in how it's implemented, everything is just cannon fodder!

One of the biggest things it introduced was a very intelligent AI. Enemies are hardly cannon fodder (okay, except for Grunts) and can be really challenging. Each one requires a different approach to best defeat them.

I also resent the idea that there can't be different play styles for different games. That system may be best for TF2, but it's a class-based system. Everyone makes their tactical decisions when they choose a class. Halo isn't; you make your decisions based on the situation and your preferences.

(Now trying to relate this to the topic so we don't go hopelessly OT. XD) I think that for many people there's this odd stigma against games like Halo, simply because everyone likes them, as though that makes them automatically appeal to the lowest common denominator. While that may be true of some games, it's best to remember that many of the original versions of these games introduced a lot to their own genre, and that they're genuinely good games.

Ah, I'll admit you're right that Halo was likely not the first game to feature such a great AI, but it's up there as one of the first, and arguably one of the best early implementations.

Anyway, back on topic?  wink

There is this awesome hacked game I got where it splattered blood anytime you stomped on an enemy and killed it.
