No more sprite when scratch is opened?

I know some people use it, but, most of the time when people are making a scratch project, they delete the sprite that comes up  when they open Scatch. So I decided, why dosent Scratch have no sprite when started up?

I'm back.
Maybe.

Re: No more sprite when scratch is opened?

If you don't have Scratch.image, no sprite will come up.

I think something better.

By default, the sound "pop" (1 KB) is under the background.  The sound "meow" (37 KB) is under the cat.  And the cat has a second costume (3 KB).

I just read on a blog post that somewhere in the ballpark of more than 35,000 projects use the Scratch Cat's 1st costume.  When you consider how many of these are projects by beginners, and how many of these beginners don't know about these default items, or how to delete them, I would say easily 50% of projects containing the Scratch Cat contain these items and don't use them.  That's 41 KB of space wasted per project.

50% of 35,000= 17,000.
17,000 * 41 = 697,000 KB = 697 MB.

Over 697 MB of unused meows, walking cat costumes, and pop sounds???

Meh. But the answer is delete scratch.image, and the scratch cat won't appear. I don't know how to make it so pop doesn't come, though  tongue

You can just remove all the default sounds and costumes, shift click the loop in the R in the Scratch logo, and click "save image for end-user."

Yeah, but remember, most of the people on scratch don't know about the R, and even less know how to program. I know you could do that, but I didn't know the simple way.

I meant program in SQUEAK, btw  tongue  Most can probably program in scratch.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with this idea, just pointing out a fix for the meantime.
