A suggestion for a new version of Scratch is that you should be able to convert it to Flash (.swf or .fla) so then you can post it in more places easier....

it would be nice, but hard to acheave. Just learn flash yourself

yambanshee is right. It would be easier just to learn flash(I learned it in 5 mins)
Its hard to learn some of the key rules, like _root. ect... but once u get the basics its alot like scratch, and then it starts getting easier then scratch... Right now i just about got some of the very basics of it sorted and managed to make a quiz, right now im trying to re make one of my more advance scratch projects into flash. Its harder to get use to but its worth it!

but flash cost 500$
Offline
£250 (500$) is the cheapest you could possibly ever get for Flash (legally)
the price is usually between £500 (1000$) to £1500 (3000$)
there is no chance [removed] that i'll be able to get flash, nor will many other people
im quite sure that the codes controlling Scratch will have corresponding codes in the Flash program, all you need is to translate those codes and match them up, and you have a converter

So you want the people who made a online community that had also made a free program to make another program that would change the things that you made with their free program to a file that scratch cannot read so you *can`t* use a program that can`t upload it`s files to the website dedicated to scratch so other people around the world cannot see how good you`re program is without download it separately and they can`t remix it.
So you`re wanting something that would take creativity away from the world.
Have fun getting that.

That would make life much easier

lol, i was able to follow that
There is a very unlikly to no chanse of you being able to convert it, because 1) my above statment b) if you dont hve flash you cant view swf files, which makes it pointless to have a converter c) scartch uses java, flash uses ActionScript There is a HUGE diffrence between flash and scartch.

it took ten minutes and about 20 scrutinisations of that text to make any sense of it whatsoever
but i dont see what your trying to say. all you have to do is have a link to the scratch file download instead of the swf download. the swf file converter would be there only to make the program compatible with other websites. possibly there wouldnt even be a download for the swf files
do you know how difficult it is to persuade someone to click a link?

@teguki - Scratch is free. Why make it so that you have a program to do the same thing at flash?

There could be a flash player for scratch but I don't think it is possible to make .sb files .swf files. I don't think it is possible to convert .sb files into .swf without a ton of effort going into it.

i already answered that: because this website is the only site which hosts scratch files, and it's close to impossible to persuade someone to click a link

plus, flash is more expencive BECAUSE it is a swf file which is more expencive, and its MUCH more flexible (id estimate over 200 'blocks' in my flash 8)

You CAN open sb files with Internet Explorer. but i dont know if you can convert it.

I would love to be able to convert to flash so that I can use it on my website without any additional plugins.

Have you tried ScratchExe ?
Don't know how that really works but depending on uses you must consider
copyrights.I think that you can use it freely as long as you give credit to
Scratch and don't make money with it. I've used it on my computer and its
really handy when you make a project for little kids and don't want them
to change the program.
I'm no expert so I hope you'll get other replies.

By the way, here's an ignorant question unrelated to Scratch that I hope someone
can answer. Is Game Maker free and what's the difference between that and Flash.
I started with Scratch, I've got very basic programming knowlege but I can learn
and I'd like to work with strings and other stuff.
Thanks

incorrect. you can legally get it much cheaper with a bunch of other adobe software..all in a package...for...
a little over $200...the catch, you have to get it for educational purposes.

big differance, flash exports as .swf and is alot more flexable in some areas, but gamemaker exports as .exe. I've been makin a game with GM, and its good for learning and beginning to use text based languages, but after a while, you need to learn a text based language like, VB or c++. GM can do limited 3D
does this help any?
---
problems wiht exporting as .swf
1. It is difficult and may not be reasonably possible.
2. Copyright issues: I'm pretty sure that Adoby is quite stringent with their copyrights. Creating a version of scratch that exports .swfs may be a copywright violation.

Yes, thanks.
I get that Game Maker is limited 3D wise but what about the price?

Thanks, I'll check it out.
I´ll bug you with one more question.
Is it easy to put a game you made with GM on your web site and let other
people use or download it?
Don't have to say how, just if it's possible.
Used to live in Canada, please don't hold it against me lol.
Thanks again.

Sorry, just realized you have a GM game on tour website, sorry for stupid question.

1. yes and no, it depends on how big your game is. You can upload it to freewebs(website hosting site) once your account is no longer provisional. You could also use mediafire, but their adds can get pretty annoying, the uploading process is pretty smooth though.
2. Why would I hold that against you?

I was just joking!
I always thought that Americans tell jokes about Canadians just like New Brunswickers do
about Newfies, it's all just for fun.
Thanks for info.

1. k
not always, its more fun to do it in good humor, and if you know the person and the person knows you are just being silly.
Offline
Sure, I apologize if offended anyone whatsoever. I don´t even get into those sort
of jokes. I just know that unfortunately there are STEREOTYPES, some hurtful, others not.
It's like jokes about blondes. ( I'd written prototypes! They do rhyme, lol)
Oh well, don't mean to get into some big discussion.
People should just respect each other, period.
I'll certainly come back if I have more questions.
Obrigado!
( Thanks in Portuguese )
