Test Drive the V28 Beta Flash Player!!!

Do you like trying new versions of software before they are released?
Are you good at finding glitches? If so, please help us test drive this latest version of the Flash-based player before it is made available to everybody.  You can run it by using the link below:

http://web.media.mit.edu/~jmaloney/playertest

Please post any problems you find to this topic, with a link to an example
project.

This version is intended to fix a number of bugs present in the earlier versions of the Flash player, such as the color-sensing issues, the screen size issue, the blank/zero comparison problem, and others.  But new bugs may have been introduced so it's important to run it against a lot of projects, even ones that worked with the production Flash player. Try it on your favorite projects!

Known Bugs:

1. List watcher still has issues.  It's biggest issue now is that List Watchers are not showing up at all...
2. Timing of animations may be slightly different.  We're still interested in examples of projects that have been affected by this issue though, so please post them.
3. Draggable sprites don't update positions or check for color matches as they are being dragged.

Sounds like it might be queuing up the actions - Flash does that, I'm not sure there is a fix for it.  Do you have a link to the project that you are seeing this problem in?

This is amazing!  big_smile  It works even better than the Java player, save the variable watchers.

EDIT: Aaah, I've found a bug! Well, not really: it was present in the old Flash player as well. But the pen seems to be off by a pixel or two, because lines the Java player draws together are drawn a few pixels apart in the Flash player...

JJROCKER: Click the "view another user" link/button and type in a username and then you can go through their projects and play them.

I have to admit this is probably the best update this year for the Scratch Flash Player. Now all they need to do is integrate it with the Online Experimental Editor and add few save and edit buttons and we have Scratch 2.0  tongue

The list watcher still has some issues. As an alternative, just punch this into the url:

where you just replace "username" with the user you want to view.  smile

It took me to the exact same thing and I punched in a bunch of names and nothing worked.

Re: Test Drive the V28 Beta Flash Player!!!

Ah, just took a look at the new Flash player, and a bug that I've been trying to pin down for the longest time is still in here; actually, the bug is in the Java player, too. I uploaded the project not to long ago with notes on where the bug is located in the script comments) and I've been meaning to report it, might as well do it now:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Nefermery/1925295

I'll check my other projects later for any more bugs, if any. ^^

Sometimes it takes a while to load (particularly if the user has a lot of projects. For example, it took a while to load 08jackt's page). Otherwise, you may want to consider switching browsers to see if there's any noticeable change.

Re: Test Drive the V28 Beta Flash Player!!!

I'm not exactly sure what's wrong, but when I try to play Illusionist's Space Wars 4 ( http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/illusionist/879463 ) I can't get past the dummy level. I tried it with v23 and v26, no success, but I can play with the Experimental Scratch Editor.i ( I opened it in that cause I didn't want to download and I wanted to see if there was a script that blocked you from playing "online". Any tips, feedback or is this a real bug?

Re: Test Drive the V28 Beta Flash Player!!!

Not really a bug but the new one is just as fast as the old one no difference in speed.
On my speed tester 2
v24 = 21.079
v26 = 21.079

On another note my project still glitches up on the flash player.

Re: Test Drive the V28 Beta Flash Player!!!

My snake project (link) still isn't working in the flash player properly.
(it thinks the game is over once you turn)

Maybe the color sensing works differently than in the normal Scratch program?
I'm thinking the head sprite is sensing the color it draws behind, while it doesn't it the Scratch program. Maybe I should have used a less delicate sensing script :p

I'd check myself, but you see the error message I'm getting.  sad

You might have Flash disabled in the IE settings. This page might help you find the problem with IE:

  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

If you figure it out, please post the answer here so we can tell other people who have the same problem with Flash on IE how to fix it.

Thanks!

If you have a chance, it would be a major help if you could post a simple project that shows this problem? Or just say what pen size and distance between lines I can use to reproduce this. Does it happen with vertical and horizontal lines, or only at some angles?

Thanks!

Yep! There's actually a bit more to it since the entire server must be updated to allow you to do everything online. (It's like the difference between Google Docs and Microsoft Word.) But you are exactly right: the Flash player code you're helping us debug will be a core part of Scratch 2.0. And what's great is that, since the Player and the Scratch Project Editor use the exact same code, projects will work exactly the same in the Player as they do in the Editor.

Thanks for your help.
