Lots of people around the age of 12, 13 and 14 begin to move on in the video game world. They move from Mario and Pokemon to Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Halo, or other violent video games. They say they are too mature for the old games, and the new, violent games are more fun.
But what are we really doing when we "Move on" from our 1-up mushrooms and our Master sword?
There is truly nothing wrong with playing our Pokemon, our Mario, our Legend of Zelda. These games are what help us let our imagination run free, let us be happy. What more does Call of Duty do for you than Metroid did?
We should not be ridiculed if we are just playing our games, enjoying the imagination, rather than learning nothing more from our violent games. If we enjoy the games we play, then what right do you have insult us about our childish play when your play is merely violent?
What do you think of "moving on" from our child-directed games?

hate to point this out (no, I don't hate to point this out)
but all the "childish" games you just said support violence too.

CARTOON Violence.
There's difference. Stomping on a mushroom monster isn't as violent as blowing a zombie's head off....

Yeah, but I'm not going to run around smashing people's heads because I played Mario.

I remember some kids we're like, "We saw Epic Kirby at the mall and we were playing the first level and we couldn't get over some hill"
Me: Wow you couldn't beat the first level?
Response: Well you play little e games! We play M for mature cause we're tough! *grunt*

I'm not going to smash people's heads because I play Black Ops.
I could've sworn we've established that violent video games don't make people violent.

Personally, I'm not into Halo, Call of Duty, all that stuff. I stick to the games I've had for a while. Heck, I even pulled out Cars: The Videogame a couple weeks ago. It brought back memories and it was still really fun.

So true....... I love you for this topic.
I never got into COD or Halo. I just got into Zelda after buying The Ocarina of Time 3D. And you know what? Things like Pokemon would be "cooler" with a better anime, and without the stupid merchandising, but I still love it. Thanks for pointing this out.....thank you......

>Implying that violent games cause people to be violent.
I play games like Halo and CoD sometimes, but the classics and more "childish" (hardly, but I can't think of a better word) never die. I still love to play my copy of Pokemon Fire Red every once in a while (I can't believe my sister erased my old file) and I still have a blast playing the original Super Mario Bros. There are lots of other games I'd mention too, but I don't feel like boring you.

TF2, Brink, etc.
Insult and anger only repeats itself.
The games may be violent, but they are not the purpose of the game, as Mature games usually are.

I'm talking about Mario and Sonic, respectively.

I'm going to be brutally honest here. It may and probably will get me warned or even banned. If you think young children should NOT play M rated games, you can stop reading now.
Right. You guys have no proof, I repeat, NO PROOF AT ALL, at least not scientific or even unbiased proof, that playing violent and mature video games causes violent behavior/corrupts your mind/blah blah blah babble babble nag nag blah.
My opinion is that you guys are trying to act "nice" and non-violent to build up reputation for becoming a mod. You will then project your stupid biased views on other people, and warn anybody who disagrees for being disrespectful.
I may be exaggerating here, but I didn't make it all up, I based it on reality.
Okay, you can resume reading here.
Guys, are you so blind you can't see the rampant ridicule over doing things like:
-Not liking Minecraft/Portal
-Liking Justin Bieber/Rebecca Black
-Liking Twilight/Heck, even claiming that Edward is NOT a fairy
I can only say haters will see what they want to hate.

lol. I'm 12. And this loosly defines me. I like the more childish games as well as M rated ones)
My favoriote games are:
Halo Reach (NOT because I like violence, but because of the thrill you get from carefully setting up a plan and then cornering your enemy)
Mariokart(timeless)
Skate 3(just love it)
Dead Space 2(freaks me out, love it none the less)
Minecraft (infinite, never ends)

BAH, who says you can't have it both ways? One moment, I'm playing Halo: Reach and stompin out da horde, the next I'm sitting down on da couch and creating lil puzzles for miniature Mario robots to solve.

Light-weight fantasy violence to gory middle-weight and above fantasy/realistic violence is not really bad per se as our nature and instincts command us to behave as such. The worrying thing is the agressive nature and violence people have towards realisticly drawn human individuals in the games. Which may indicate that such behaviour is a representation of their ideal world and that those certain individuals should seek help.

The above statement in red is an outrageous exaggeration. The whole thing is just what I think. I said it is possible for people who play violent video games to act irrationally, because I have seen people whos every statement is something like "If i was playing call of duty right now, I would blow your head off you [insert cuss here]".
And I don't care whether you agree or disagree with me or not. If you think we should move on from our old video games, that is your opinion, and I cannot change that.
Just because I want to know if people disagree or agree with still playing childs games makes me want to build up a reputation? I find that offensive to think that just a simple question makes you think I am trying to fool everyone. I'm just posting this topic for the sake of wonderment.
Now the above statement in blue. What does this even have to do with this topic? We are talking about video games, not trying to bring up flamebait.
But if all of the previous quoted statement is what you truly think, so be it. I can't change you. That is your opinion, and I will honor it.

And I've seen people whose every statement is something like "If I was Bowser I would totally OWN your a$$ you ******, stupid a$$head" and then proceed to make dirty jokes about Princess Peach and Mario. Video Games causes irrational behaviour, period. Not just violent ones. And as long as they don't actually blow your head off, I don't see what's the problem.
And I don't care whether you agree or disagree with me or not. If you think we should move on from our old video games, that is your opinion, and I cannot change that.
[color=red]And I can't change your opinion either. It's an endless argument!!11!one!!1eleven!1!! Make a useful statement, will you?

I find that offensive to think that just a simple question makes you think I am trying to fool everyone. I'm just posting this topic for the sake of wonderment. No one posts a topic without an ulterior motive. If you post a link to an article, you might be complaining about it, or just saying that hey, there's a new Minecraft game coming up! You posted that link to tell people that, not to post links. No one posts links because they want to. Similarly, you must be trying to tell people something. Either you want to rile them up to hate on the modern video game players, or you want to build up rep. Think about it.
Now the above statement in blue. What does this even have to do with this topic? We are talking about video games, not trying to bring up flamebait. [color=red]I'm pointing out that people are here squabbling over the so called "OMG VIOLENCE IRRATIONAL BEHAVIOUR" of CoD but join in when the time to tease people over Justin Bieber comes.
But if all of the previous quoted statement is what you truly think, so be it. I can't change you. That is your opinion, and I will honor it.... I can't make up my mind whether this is another rep building sneaky trick or just a sort of conclusion thing. If its the former, I doubt it will work. If its the latter, that's fine by me.
