because most people, once posting a comment, are done with the time being and want to look at a new thread in the same section, rather than read the thread they just commented on again. its just more convenient.

It may be more convenient, but it just doesn't seem like something that would logically happen... I'd get quite confused! I also tend to proofread my posts after posting them

Well, I wouldn't mind being brought back to a certain page or section after I commented. I like having an option like this.
The only thing is that I wonder if such an idea could be implemented in the forum structure.

i actually suggested this because some different forums did the same thing- and i found it very helpful!
still though, at the very least it could scroll to the top of the page so i could click the general topic again.

There's a preview button? O_o
JK, but I only use it for long "official" posts.
How about if it was settable in your settings?

Personally, I open new threads I want to look at in new tabs (I open a lot at once) and once I'm done, just close them and go back to my main tab. I think the option for those who prefer that would be nice though.
Edit: Confound you scimonster and your necroposts! *Shakes fist angrily.*

Oops, some spammer posted here and I didn't look at the date. >_<
