This has happened three times now:
When using the Scratch program, I'll be doing normal stuff and then suddenly all the text will dissapear. All the blocks will still be there, in the right places and everything works right, except there's no text.
Now your thinking, Oh... I've worked ages on this and now it's broken.
This isn't really a problem though as you can just save it (btw - the file names have all dissepeared aswell and the folder names when trying to save) and reload Scratch - which works.
Also when you reload scratch, if a sprite has text in it, the text won't reappear until you edit all the cotumes of that sprite, which agian is annoying.

I've seen it a couple of times too. Anybody got any idea what is triggering it?
I've checked the official bug list and it is listed there. But I don't know when we can expect a fix.

All of the times that it occurred, I had, in one way or another, something that created lag. Sometimes there was a very long script, or many pictures with high quality, or a large music file, or sometimes there were just a ton of scripts, sprites, or costumes. I'm not sure if this lag was the problem, but it appears to be more likely to occur when Scratch was running slower because of large contents. It have never encountered this problem with any smaller sized projects, so this appears to be the trend right now. As clear as I can remember, I started having this problem with the release of Scratch 1.3 and Scratch 1.31; I don't think it happened much, if at all, with
Scratch 1.21, 1.2, or the original version.

It can't be that because when it happened to me, it was only a small 1 sprite project with like 1 script.

It happened to me when I edited the text on a costume. I think I dragged the text up, clicked OK and then the glitch kicked in - similar to JSO

It happens to me every ten minutes. And if it's just lag, how much lag could 6 sprites, 1 music file, and 12 scripts possiblely cause? And nothing seems to trigger it; it just happens every ten minutes.

It matters the size of the music file and how long the scripts are- if you split one long scripts up into a few, Scratch will run much faster. I think lag can be one cause of this problem, but it can also be triggered randomly with the text...

I had something really weird happen on my latest project when I made a rather long Project Notes box (maybe that was the trigger). This one I can repeat though...see if you can make it happen on your PC, just follow these steps:
1) Download and Open this project http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Paddle2SeeFixIt/363514
2) Click on the Green Flag to get it running in Development mode
3) Click on the Play button under the keyboard on the left side of the stage and wait for Silent Night to complete playing.
4) Click on the Project Notes button up in the upper right area of Scratch
If your PC acts like mine, you will see the dreaded Red Project Note box! Let me know if it does it for you.

Yep, Red project box appeared.
TheCatAndTheBanana reminded me of something then. When this happened the first time, it was with a project that had font in V1.2, but not in V1.3. I had downloaded 1.3 and opened a project from V1.2 and that was when the glitch happened.

Well, that's interesting...this project with the Red Project Notes Box (which has also suffered from the Dissapearing Text Bug and a few other weird things) also started out as a 1.2 project that I brought into 1.3 and modified extensively. Maybe I'll try importing the whole thing into a brand new 1.3 project and see if that does anything good.

oh, yeah, now that I think of it. the project that it always happens on (t-zine) was a project originally on 1.2 that automatically converted to 1.3 when I downloaded that version but I think I saved it to a different name then deleted the old one and it still happens

When the glitch happened last, it was in a completely new project, which was created in 1.3

I think it is related just to the length of the text.
Hmmm. Well, that's interesting because that's not what I consider a large amount of Project Note text. Have you seen the notes for "Capitol" - they go on for pages and pages. But I think you are right...removing the text seems to eliminate the behavior. However, there is one difference...when I paste a large amount of text into a Say block, I get a walkback. With this Project Note text box bug, I do not get a walkback.
Maybe there isn't any relation to the Disappearing Text bug then. But there still could be a connection. They both look like the kind of problems that would be caused by program data trashing program memory. Only John or Jens can tell us for sure, I suspect!

Hmm, it works fine for me, i.e. I can't reproduce the error you describe - but I'll check on different machines. It's one of the most wonderful and useful musical projects in Scratch, btw!
I'm sorry you can't see the error...I am sure you are one of the few people that could actually track it down and tell us what is going on. As for the project...thanks for the kind words. I''m almost happy with it...if it didn't have all these weird Scratch bugs happening in it

Sorry that I can't (yet) reproduce it, Paddle2See. I downloaded your project, copied it to various machines and ran it under several Scratch versions (official releases as well as development versions), but everything worked fine and flawlessly (I wanted to place a sad face here, but then reconsidered this to be somewhat unfitting for not getting any error, lol!).
Those screenshots certainly look scary. Red areas with yellow x's usually indicate that a "Morph" (a visual component) cannot be displayed in Squeak. This sometimes happens if there is an error in creating that morph, i.e. if there's a divide-by-zero, a NaN or Infinity in the morph's position or extent. Some weeks ago (before 1.3.1) we ran into such an error when trying move a sprite by log(0) steps, which evaluated to negative Infinity. I'm not sure what could be causing this behavior in your project or if it is related to the Disappearing Text Bug. The size of the text should'nt be any problem, and neither cause the Disappearing Text Bug, nor the "red-area" thing you're observing, Scratch is made to handle a *lot* of data.
I also notice that the script in the screenshot shows a red outline indicating some kind of error (which I can't see in your project). I guess I'll go and try some more things now...

in a new project,a walkback like this shows:
Supscript is Out Of Bounds: 1
Array(Object)>>error:
[] in PasteUpMorph>>displayWorldSafely
[] in BlockContext>>ifError:
Array(Object)>>error:
Array(Object)>>errorSubscriptBounds:
Array(Object)>>at:
StringFieldMorph>>currsorOffsetFor:
StringFieldMorph>>drawSelectionOn:
StringFieldMorph>>drawOn:
FormCanvas(Canvas)>>drawMorph:
in paddle2sees project, the same happens, except the pointer disappears when re-sizing the walkback
in paddle2sees,got red notes,then copyed all the page,but in the new one,draged out a <say[ block,and pasted.
