Port-forwarding an unknown model, er, modem?

I have been having difficulties trying to figure out what the diff. between a modem and a model is for a router so I can find a port-forwarder. Help?

You would do port forwarding on the router, it would be some settings called "port forwarding" to get to your router configuration page, type 192.168.1.1 into the url box on your web browser (it can also be 192.168.1.0, 192.168.2.1 or even 192.168.123.254 try all of them if the first one doesn't work until a web page comes up) also, what port are you trying to forward, and what for?

ah yes you want to forward port 25565 as that's the default port for minecraft servers
I'm not sure, but shouldn't this go in miscellaneous?
