I've spent a long time on a project. I set all the variables carefully to what they need to be, and then upload it. I look at the project. The variables are terriblly messed up. I sigh. I download it, and revert the variables to what they originally were. I upload it.
I continue this process 4 times. Nothing happens. The variables continue to irritate me to the point where I was tempted to rip off my pants and get a new pair.
Today I would like to tell the Scratch team about some bugs with their system. Do not get me wrong, I love Scratch. Its a great first step in the staircase of Java. All am doing now, is to help fix some problems.
First problem, is the java player. When you hide a variable and then show it again, everything that you had precariously set up before is instantly wiped off and then reset to what it originally looks like when you first make a variable. Though it may not seem so offline, it does happen. Unfortunately.
Second problem, is the way the front page is made. I'm not talking about those three blocks in the front front page, I'm talking about the "Newest" project page. I'm not sure what happened, it may just be me and my dumb self.
I uploaded this game, right? Not great, not bad. I was hoping it would get a generous 10 or 11 views. I look at it to make sure it didn't look terrible, but then I noticed the variable problem, as mentioned above. So I download it, do everything, and then reupload it. Next thing you know, the project is nowhere to be found, and has one view.
It may not all be this website's fault.
If it was a websie malfunction, please fix. I understand you have lives and can't do everything I or anyone else says, but whenever you're on a break, please help.
Btw. this thread has been moderated quite a few embarressing times. Lets just let this thread die away. Nothing was solved except a bunch of reprints. Thanks for your time though. I apologize for my rage, and I also apologize for making my post look like it had been edited by moderaters.... wait a minute.

I know you're mad, but you really shouldn't swear that much. This is a family forum.

I know... i know.. but freaking, heck, and mushrooms aren't curse words. If this weren't a family forum, I would've said something else.

Getting all mad isn't going to help the situation, so calm down and stop swearing, please.
Anyway... there's a known bug where variables will reset to their original positions after being uploaded, but only if they're hidden. So, just upload it with all the variables showing, and they won't get messed up! (This will definitely be fixed in the next version of Scratch.)
If you don't want the thumbnail to look bad with a bunch of variables everywhere, try getting to a point in the game where they're all showing, then press the stop button and upload. When the game begins, make them all hide. There you go!

Calm down- [removed] is a swear word too. Also, this problem has been around for quite a while.

I just did. x3
But seriously, there's nothing to worry about. Look at all the people who have already told you how to solve this. Just do what they said and stop this petty tomfoolery. >.>

Nope. Not until project=fixed. Thanks though.
Btw, I wasn't aware [removed] was a curse word. Should I sensor out all the the's in my thread too?

OK man, calm down. No one's implying you're stupid, and some people here are honestly trying to help. It's not working, OK, but shoving it in their faces won't make it better.
All of that aside, I'll help as best I can...
the only way to solve this, is to have EVERY VARIABLE on screen when the game starts. Only way.
That's what I was saying. You upload it like that and hide the variables when the green flag is pressed.
If that doesn't work, try adding a "wait" block before hiding the variables. There's a chance that the script is activating too early; if so, that will solve it.
Also:
To add insult to injury, it gets 1 view and is wiped off the front page in 9 seconds. Sure, the project sucks, sure I don't deserve anything with this attitude.
The newest project section displays 3 random projects uploaded in the last few minutes. This wasn't always the case, but updating constantly was a huge strain on the server. Given the choice between updating every 5 minutes or this method, they decided the latter was fairer.

Wait, the filter (mods) block it even if I replaced some of the letters with asterisks? Oh, never mind.

I believe that "**** MUSHROOMS" implies a much stronger sense of hatred than "Shiitake Mushrooms," which are actually quite flavorful and delicious. While their name should not be used in place of a swear word, the mushrooms themselves should not be censored from the forums just because of their first syllable. Just an opinion.

I believe it's just the word filter, which, while not as aggressive in the forums as in the comments, has a tendency to filter out words that merely contain swears between other characters.

Dude, calm down. You have not failed. You've just found a lot of ways that it won't work. Varibles are really glitchy when it comes to moving them. Your best bet would to make a sprite and loads of costumes. Not the best way but...

You might wanna ask the mods to change the topic name.

Okay. I get it. You're mad. But I really think the topic title should be changed into something that describes your problem. Calling a topic "What the &#$%?!?!" doesn't help people solve your problem.

I think you're in a bad mood. Or you're a teenager. xD But calm down! There has to be a solution somehow.

Thanks for the help peoples. I was in quite a bad mood. Woke up too early, didn't have breakfast worked on Scratch for 2 and a half hours with nothing to do, uploaded a game, and then got one view. I was rather angry.

I think I know a solution. When you save or upload a project, all the variables must be showing or when you show them in game, they will appear at their default positions. At least, thats what happens when I save while I have a variable hidden. I'm not sure if your gettting the same problem thoguh...
Offline
OK guys, I think he's heard "show all the variables before uploading" a few times. woofwoof301, is it still not working? I made a pretty long post up there.
