What do you mean by that?
it's means that as more people come in and are inexperienced, and older scratchers leave, the newer people can let somewhat overrated projects rise to the front page easier. However, lots of people don't know about misc. or don't want to post on misc., so they stay away.

Misc. is one of the rare forums that only Scratchers (as opposed to allowin New Scratchers to post too) can use. This cuts down on clueless new members and spammers. It's a lot tamer than the main site, it's like an elite family

...Except Misc still tends to be the most out-of-control forum, just because of the nature of the topics there. Lets face it: some people don't know when something doesn't make for the best topic, leading to minor flame wars, spam, derails, etc... it's still a pretty crazy place, albeit not in the same way as the main site.

Ah, thank you for providing a perfect example, rabbit.
Basically, a derail is when a thread goes way off-topic.

I know, it's kinda crazy here - any untoughened newbies wouldn't survive a day here.
I think that basically, the worst parts of Misc. are the Twitter-like updates (OMG MAI LAPTOP BREAKED SO I GOTTED A NEW MAC ISN'T I KEWL) and Minecraft topics. If we cut down on those two types of topics, Misc. might be more peaceful...

I don't even mind those topics so much, because I can ignore them. (Maybe I'm biased because I like Minecraft though.) Spam topics can be annoying, but the only thing that really bothers me is when people start going on crusades to complain about something, then more people start posting topics related to that, some in fervent support and others in bitter opposition. It's just very frustrating to see half the misc community get in a forum-wide war over some silly little topic.

Oh yeah, the topics that are like 'My response to [insert topic here]'. If they wanna reply, they should really reply to the original topic...

Exactly. There's no need to have an argument over many threads, no less one. It's also my opinion that many of the people complaining about the large amount of MC topics have this mentality:

Miscellaneous is a pretty interesting place. I'm not particularly fond of it: I'm irritated by both the topics and the people. For some reason, though, I stick around. I'm not exactly sure why. It contains a frustrating community that is near-impossible to contain.

Actually, only about 100 or so users use the forums, that's rather small compared to the 200,000+ users that we have on Scratch in general. ^^

But cheddagirl does a good job!

With contain the community? In my opinion, it's not possible.
