Of course there were no earth ponies or pegasi. It's really unfair to judge a show based on the first few minutes of the pilot, of all things.

I could only stand 3 minutes of it.

Besides it IS meant for girls. Most contradictory thing I could've said here

*Shrug* Sometimes shows hit outside their target demographic. The animation is fluid and detailed, the art style is clean and attractive, the voice actors bring life to their lines, the plot is decent, and the characters are all memorable in their own special way. It has references and allusions to pop culture and tons of other shows, and the humor is genuinely funny, something that can't be said for most cartoons now. I don't see why some people need to automatically hate something just because stereotypes and social stigmas say we should.

Yeah, I watch Powerpuff Girls. Just because it has the word "girl" or "pony" in them, it can still be entertaining for guys.

I've watched the show while baby sitting, it doesn't appeal to me at all. I don't understand how anybody can like the show, and the art style creeps me out.

I didn't know we were talking about a show other than the Pony one in here?

PandaGuy mentioned the Powerpuff Girls TV show in the last few posts as an analogy to the My Little Pony issue. In similarity, there is a sizable male fanbase for Powerpuff Girls even though the show is mainly aimed at girls.

PPG's fanbase is probably because they have an anime version in Japan

I dunno. Before the anime version came out, PPG had a well-sized fanbase.

Actually, from what I've seen from most PPG fans, most seem to criticize the anime version and prefer the original.

*Shrug* It's not for everyone. Some people love it, others can't get past the fact that it's about ponies.

There's also the popular fan Webcomic based on PPG and lots of other old cartoons. http://ppg.snafu-comics.com/comics/040118_ppg.jpg

But now we're getting into the realm of fan fiction, an art, and fan comics, not focusing on which version (the original PPG or the newer anime PPG:Z) is more preferred among the fan base.

But we're getting off topic, this is thread is about bronies and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic [although in an insteresting side note, I feel the need to mention that one of the people who did major work on the original PPG also worked on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magiclol ]

Yup. Laurent Faust, the executive producer for season one, (now the consulting producer) also worked on storyboards for The Powerpuff Girls as well as Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

Yeah, that's part of what makes the show so great. They had a Benny Hill-style chase scene and even referenced Charlie's Angels in one episode.
