I believe people should be rewarded based on ability.  If you make a popular project, you DESERVE to be on the front page. Period.

My latest project never made it to the Top Loved line.  It stalled out at #5 and therefore was never shown.  I totally deserved what I got.  Had I made a better project I would have been rewarded with front page status.  As it is, different people made better projects than me and got shown... AS THEY SHOULD HAVE!

If you want on the front page, MAKE BETTER PROJECTS to get famous, then make more projects.  You'll get there.  It takes HARD WORK.  <snip>  We can't just give you fame for free, you need to earn it.

But I agree with the top loved/viewed/remixed.

I always see famous peoples stuff up there, like, lets say bobbyf makes a new project. Boom! Frontpaged almost instantly. They should make you wait 3 months until you're on the page again!

3 months is a little much. Maybe you should wait a couple weeks or, as coinman said, 1 month. Or like me, Gettysburg11, and scmb1 said, alternate from the top 10.

If you say that people should be rewarded only based on ability, that implies equal opportunity for recognition, don't you think? The problem with the front page presented in this topic is that people who get their projects on the front page get the most attention from the community, and so their next project has a higher chance of getting on the front page than a different project of equal quality, but which was made by a person who isn't on the front page.

Featured projects are a pretty good way to deal with this sort of "monopoly", but some people are starting to think that it could have been done better (especially now that Featured projects have lost the sort of respect they received earlier).

Well, I think an argument for the current system is that while the people who are currently more popular do have an advantage in terms of recognition and initial views, they had to start somewhere too. They earned their popularity by posting projects that people enjoyed and slowly got more and more recognized.

Granted, it was probably easier to get noticed when Scratch's community was smaller, but I think that the point still stands.

On a side note, the current moderators really come out of the woodwork when the elections roll around, don't they?

can't they just take random projects in general and put them on the front page

Instead of making it 4 days to get on the front page and stay on til those days are up, make it however long and only be allowed to stay on a couple days. That way unpopular people could take a while to get up there since they're unnoticed but still get the attention they deserve. Hard to explain . . . .
