Oy vey. I honestly think that's more marketing than anything else, and of course how much noise the computer makes depends on what one you get. We have an HP in the kitchen that is virtually silent, and my computer is pretty quiet when I turn the vent fans down to low.

it depends:
if you want it for music and would like to take it with you for travel and stuff, go to the ipod touch you can play games and listen to music and surf the internet
if you want all the things the ipod has but bigger get the ipad
and if you want a computer and a thing to play real games on go for the mac.
personally I'd go with the mac but idk what you really want.
