I didn't understand what was going on, but then I read a different Topic and that explained it.

Congrats, candidates, and good luck in the coming election.
To answer a question that's been floating around, I do think we're using the same ranked voting system as last time...I've asked the ST about this so I'll be able to offer confirmation soon.
We will in fact be using the same voting system as before, where you choose your candidates in order of preference.

Yep, but if someone would like to build a consensus for a better / different voting system (for future elections, not tomorrow's), they should go for it! I'd recommend starting a forum thread and Scratch suggestion about it.

Have I calculated this right? I'm in the UK so I think I'm in GMT which means the voting will be between 4:00pm Thursday and 4:00am Friday?
How will the vote take place? I would like to be able to link to it in my signature whilst the vote is in progress?

I haven't calculated this year's times, but last election I voted at 5pm in the UK and elections had been open for a while, so working from that voting should be open at roughly 4pm. I think you've worked that out about right.

If you're in GMT, then it should be between 3:00 pm Thursday and 3:00 am on Friday. GMT is 4 hours ahead of Eastern time, which MIT is on. Thus, 4 hours after 11:00am Thursday in Eastern time would be 3:00pm Thursday on your time.

Who will be allowed to vote? I guess it should be everyone but for security and fairness, shouldn't it be only 'Scratchers'?
Or put differently, it shouldn't be 'New Scratchers'?

I've been on vacation for a while and won't be able to log on until Friday morning, and as such, this is the first thing I've heard of these elections. I'd just like to chime in and say good luck to all the candidates! I look forward to working with you.

I won't be able to vote during that time so I sent the ST an email with my preferences

Wait, if they start on the 21st, does it mean they start exactly on July 21st, 2011, 0:00 (12:00 AM) EST? If so, here are the times for people living in different timezones in the USA:
Central Time (CST)- July 20th, 2011, 23:00 (11:00 PM)
Mountain Time (MST)- July 20th, 2011, 22:00 (10:00 PM)
Pacific Time (PST) (my timezone!)- July 20th, 2011, 21:00 (9:00 PM)
If people don't know what timezone they are in, they can check this list.

The elections are starting at 11:00 a.m. Eastern time tomorrow. Thus, it would be 10 a.m. Central time, 9 a.m. Mountain time, and 8 a.m. Pacific time.

It'll be a page that shows up here:
http://scratch.mit.edu/elections/vote
(Until 11 am tomorrow, and after 11 pm, it'll just be a 404 error.)

And I guess it wouldn't be fair for any of my siblings to vote? (Not neccesarily for me )

Uh Chris and I will both vote, and we're siblings... but then again it's not like we can vote for ourselves
Maybe if your siblings would vote fairly, they could be allowed? Just my thoughts though ^^
