I thought it was only the people ON the commercial that had a crush on her, because of all the "great deals" for insurance she provides

Trust me. You'd be surprised at how many fanboys there are.

Or the tight suit?
Probably a combination.
By any chance would these people be anime nerds?

Would make sense considering that a large majority of anime characters fit those criteria from what I can see.

Some of the YouTube comments on the Erin Esurance commercials are quite disturbing. o_o Good thing there's such things as YouTube Repeat.
Concerning your theory, yes, it makes sense.

I find it quite bizarre.![]()
And tell me the truth, do you?
P.S. It's that pink-haired girl on the Esurance commercials. Example.
The idea of having a crush on a fictional character isn't uncommon. There are people who have crushes on fictional characters from books, movies, TV shows, and in case an insurance commercial.
I suppose people have a tendency to admire character they feel exemplifies the traits that they find admirable, perhaps because since it's unlikely they will meet that kind of person in real life (if the take the example of Erin Esurance, how many women do you know work as a spy behind an auto-insurance agent disguise?)
I do find it scary, though, when they start fantasizing that they have a relationship with the fictional characters. Particularly when that fantasizing starts to blur the line between reality and fiction. O.o
