Actually, it can be. No, I'm not advocating giving up what you like because it's cool, I'm trying to find other people that find it obnoxious when people go on a popular opinion because it's "cool". Justin Beiber, for example.
At my school, when people catch me listening to Green Day, they get into this huge conversation about how Green Day is "horrible" and "contrived" and how can anyone be so STUPID to listen to them.
Are people allowed to have opinions anymore on what music you like without people pounding on you because of it?

Um, people should be allowed to have opinions without people pounding on them because of it. There's a difference between disagreeing with someone's opinion and outcasting them. O.o

Apperently at my school it's cool to hate on people with aspergers and people who are bullied and don't have the ability to defend themselves because it;s cool to hate on them, or their friends
I used to be somewhat popular.
At my school most people have earbuds or don't talk much about music- if somebody knows what you like in terms of music there's a problem.

Yeah, I know the answer to that. I hate most "cool" people, the ones that act like they rule the world, that seem to think that they rule the world and your opinions. I also don't like it when people play along with it.

For one, Green Day. People HATE them, for unknown reasons. They try out new styles, and everyone hates them when their music starts to mature. They call it contrived just because it's played on the radio. Does the fact that it became famous or popular make it take any less talent? And a few Green Day "haters" I have caught listening to 21 Guns. Ha!
I like Green Day, but I think Dookie and Insomniac were their best material. I didn't think they needed to mature. If it isn't broken, you don't have to fix it. I still enjoy their later work, but I'm caught listening to their 90's stuff much more often.
Basically, it goes like this for me in Green Day albums:
1. Dookie
2. Insomniac
3. Kerplunk
4. Nimrod
5. American Idiot
6. 39/Smooth
7. 21st Century Breakdown
8. Warning

That one makes me the angriest.
Can anyone come up with other bands and artists that everyone thinks are "cool" to hate, or the majority of people hate, and why you think it is unfair. (I know Justin Beiber will come up somewhere in this topic...)
I've listened to Green Day (just once) and it is pretty good music! As for hating something because it is 'Cool' to do so, you should stick to your own opinion
