Blurry sprites

I need sprites for my pokemon games I'm making, but when I go on spriter's resouce, and get my sprites, they come in big sheets, and then I have to grow them.  Then they get all blurry.  My most wanted sprite is rout 1.  So if you could find a rout 1, that's not blurry, that would be great!  Please please PLEASE reply, and tell me what to do.

Re: Blurry sprites

Well, maybe you should just zoom to cut them, so that it isn't blurry at original size. Or use an SVG.  hmm

Re: Blurry sprites

When you get sprite sheets from The Spriter's Resource, open it in paint and use the select tool to select each individual costume and save it as a different picture. Then all you have to do is import the part you selected into Scratch. It does take time, but I have found that it is well worth it.  smile

Re: Blurry sprites

Do you open it in the scratch paint editer, or is there a dfferent paint editer?

Re: Blurry sprites

Open the image in a different paint editor to cut out the sprite you want, and put it in its own image file. I prefer Paint.NET to remove the transparency (if you use windows). There you go.  wink

Opening it in the Scratch paint editor is probably why they're becoming blurry. Sprite sheets tend to be a high resolution to cram all the sprites in, so importing it into the Scratch editor causes it to be downscaled to fit to the 480 x 360 resolution, resulting in sprites being blurry when you enlarge them. I also recommend Paint.net.

It's that Paint.net doesn't make it blurry. Scratch blurs it. Make sure the vut sprite is less than 480x360 px.

Well, if you've tried cutting them out in another editor and you are still getting blurry results, you may be starting with an image that is not high enough resolution.  Not enough dots-per-inch (dpi) is going to give you a chunky looking image, if it's enlarged too much.  About all you can do to fix that is look for a higher resolution image...or make your own using a digital camera or scanner.

Get microsoft powerpoint, put the sprite that you want to grow, and you get best quality growth!!!!

Re: Blurry sprites

Well again, Scratch downscales the larger image when you import the whole thing, reducing the detail level. It's best to cut out the sprite you need in another editor and get it to a proper size so that Scratch doesn't have to scale the image down.

Yeah, but in paint.net, I can't grow it!  Is there a better application?

GIMP, to be honest, is much harder to use for a newbie. With Paint.net, you don't want to increase the size of the sprite. (Although you can do that.) Instead, you want to select the sprite you want, then crop the image to that selection. (I believe the hotkey is Ctrl + shift + x.)
