Except from me hosting it of course?
I know of ways to fool the hosting company so that I get it free, but I really don't feel like lying

A VPS (Virtual private server) is good for what you are looking for.
Below is a Google search that you can see how to score one for free.
Clicky!

Scroll to the very bottom and download the software.
I run a free sever for my friends to log on.
I don't want to host it, I want it to be up all the time, not just when I'm there.

No. There won't be.
It cost money to run a server and not only do the companies do it at a price, they do it for profit.

i run a server for me and my friends
since when did hosting a server cost money?
They can be 24/7, have more features, and be generally more reliable if you pay a company to host it. And you still get access to all the files, whitelisting, plugins, etc.
