i learnt how to a few weeks ago. i was scared at first, worrying that it would sting....but then i went swimming with my best friend and my worst enemie JUST HAD TO COME. he kept stealing my goggles and i was like...."urgh....i give up....I HAVE TO LEARN TO OPEN MY EYES UNDERWATER!" then i went underwater and opened my eyes abit and i opened them more and i was like "woah...pretty....but blurry....this doesnt hurt at all...."

I can, but i'm not sure if everyone can.

meh. nothing much. just makes everything look blurry. if your talking about somebody flicking water into your eyes, it hurts.
but be careful - if your wearing contacts or have sensitive eyes DO NOT OPEN THEM UNDERWATER WITHIOUT GOGGLES

not everybody has the ability to, as it is nervewracking.
but everybody can if they try, but to some people it may affect their eyes. it doesnt affect mine though

I can! But after a while, or later on it'll sting from all of the harsh chemicals in the water. For me, anyways

I need goggles.

In saltwater it's suicide, in chlorine it just bloodshots and minor discomfort.
I can in chlorine water.
And then CLEAN freshwater doesn't hurt I think.

It shouldn't in saltwater - That's what our eyes are made of
I can in chlorine..
Clean freshwater = eyes - salt
So, it should't hurt.

Funny, in saltwater I'm fine. Can't see a thing though; too murky.
Chlorine makes my eyes itch, but I can see a lot more clearly.
I mean, a lot of people can do it. I don't think I know anyone my age who can't.

Edit: I mean underwater.

Have you never opened your eyes in saltwater?
It's kind of like saying that we need some sodium so salt can never hurt us.

Yes, yes I have. I couldn't see anything, because it was murky. Point is, it didn't hurt
