A new derp has come to town!

Hi scratchers, I'm xmagicx60. I've tried scratch before but never was able to use it effectively until the flash player came out. The java version takes up too much memory for my 2003 computer.

I'm not that smart in programming or anything for that matter, though I'm decent at web design.

I'm 20 years old and female so I'm probably a bit odd in this community. I enjoy Scratch because of it's flexibility and allowing me to actually make games on linux. The only other sites I was able to do this at were playcrafter which closed and lagged a ton, and mygamebuilder which is very inflexible. Cant wait to settle in!

Don't feel down! Scratch was made for new programmers to get a grasp in programming!  big_smile  I'm sure you'll get the hang of it, just keep trying!  wink

It may be a little odd, but there are people older then you on Scratch.  smile

Haha lol, im not down. But yea. Nice! Scratch is efficient though it seems a bit cumbersome when coming to steps. I get kinda tired of no being able to adjust the step direction without having to rotate the sprite.

I'm not new to programming but I am new to object-oriented programming which I like but I have yet to grasp fully.

Re: A new derp has come to town!

As you've probably noticed so far [See "Above posts"], the community consists mainly of children. There are a few adults and teen and whatnot, but it's mainly kids. The rules here are pretty tight because of that, but in a loose way.

Be sure to read the terms of use at http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Terms_of_use (Or you can just click the link on the bottom of every page here)

Pretty much, just don't post anything you wouldn't say to a class of third graders and you should be fine

Have fun

Set the rotate mode to don't rotate and it should be able to point in any direction without turning the actual sprite.

There is also a very complicated way to do it using trigonometry  tongue

What you say is true, but despite the fact that there are "kids" on Scratch, I don't think it is right for you to assume that most of the people here are "kids" being only a New Scratcher yourself. If you will take a moment to look at the Scratch Statistics page for user ages you will see that the majority of Scratchers are between 11 and 19. In saying this I merely suggest that you research facts before you talk about them to other New Scratchers such as yourself.

Thankyou and Scratch on!

You're assuming this is my first account

Oh okay
So they're kids

I merely suggest you do more research yourself instead of using others' and get your own "facts" straight before trying to look omniscient
The Scratch Statistics page is based off of the information you provide while signing up
I think it's safe to say (From experience) some (lots of) kids don't put in their actual date of birth, which skews results significantly anyhow

Thankyou and Scratch on!!!!1!1one!!!

That's true, most put it as older because either they have to to register for something, or for their own "safety".  Having too much personal info out there can be, well, not good.  Anyways, I think the Scratch community is great, regardless of the age of members!

Agreed, looking through the forums, the people seem much more mature than a lot of forums I've been on.
