I would really like to have a signature but my profile says that new scratchers aren't allowed to have signatures. What the heck? That is kinda weird. Its like you get a new phone. That phone (if it even has a text signature) doesn't make you wait to use your signature. Its a bit odd and I think I misunderstand the reason why we wait. Now please don't flag, I'm making a suggestion. I suggest that signatures should be experessed right away to show the individual you are! And I'm not exactly a new scratcher. I posted a note on the forums with a account that I've had for over a year now was discribed as a new scratcher. My suggestion is for us to experess ourselves sooner than later.

It's too make sure you actually want to be a Scratcher and stay here to get it.
Otherwise spambots could link their company in their sig and post it all around. But a spambot won't stick around to make posts and create projects.

Unfortunately, the New Scratcher status is a case of trolls and spambots ruining everyone else's fun. As much as we'd all like everyone to have full privileges right away, the New Scratcher status helps keep damage by the aforementioned trolls and spambots to a minimum by limiting how often they can post and what they can post as well. Signatures fall under that category, as soup said, because spammers can put their advertisements in their signatures as well.

I'm not sure if the posting bit was necessary to do the damage
Though yeah you got the point across xD

I've experienced a troll, he was really inappropriate and rude! He just goes around and ruins the fun! He should be flagged right away!

Uh the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page might be a better place for that

If you see someone being mean, flag or report their posts as inappropriate so the mods can do something about it.

Yea. People could just make an account right away and advertise products or spam the forums (belive it or not) but yea, i wish i didnt have to wait

Well, the posting does add to the amount of links, and therefore Google bumps it more.

^Yep, that's pretty much it. Although, to make a small correction - we actually get more human spammers than spambots around here, so the spammers can be ridiculously crafty at times to get spam on our site (like hiding URL links behind smileys).
Google and other search engines index EDU websites pretty quickly, so the website is a total spam magnet, up to the point that Scratch is listed on several 'To Spam' lists being shared out there.

@SuperYoshiluver13:
Instead of comparing signatures to customizing a cellphone, try to compare it to driving a car. Changing the status from "New Scratcher" to "Scratcher" is like getting the driver's license to drive the car - you need to show that you can drive the car first before being allowed to drive one.

Can't spambots do that sort of thing too?
It would be fun to hack in and edit one of those sites to remove it. XD
That's a good tip.
EDIT: 4800th post!!!!!!!!!!

They could, but, unlike spambots, human spammers can also go back to their old posts and edit them. They can also post a blank Scratch project with a commercial link in the project notes. They can send e-mails to the Scratch Team asking the Scratch Team to repeal bans (which are obviously ignored, as we really hate spammers). There's a couple of other things they can do, but I'm too lazy to enumerate them all.
