Video Editing Software

I think I'd like to advance from Windows Movie Maker, and try something else. Is there any video editing software that you guys recommend?

Requirements:

-Not something extremely advanced. I'm fine with spending a week or two trying to figure out some stuff in the program, but nothing too hard.
-Must be compatible with Windows
-Must be compatible with 64-bit computers.
-Must not take up more than 5 GB in hard drive space.

Any recommendations.

Re: Video Editing Software

I don't think Sony Vegas has all of those requirements, but I recommend it.

Re: Video Editing Software

I use Sony Vegas Platinum 9. (The newest version is 11 though.) It's very good for intermediate video editing and not too expensive either. If you want to go all out for the best possible editor out there, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 is the ultimate option, but also very expensive. Personally, I recommend Vegas unless you really need the best of the best.

Re: Video Editing Software

If you're looking for a free one, try Zwei-Stein. I don't know how it got that name, but it has basic video editing (Greenscreen(or should I say Colorscreen), desaturation, compositing, etc.).

Re: Video Editing Software

After Effects is the best video-editing software, but that takes a while to learn how to use. It took me about 1 year to "master" it, but once you do, it goes beyond any other software.

For someone who just wants to put a little effort into learning, try Sony Vegas.

I wonder nobody discusses using freeware for video editing.

This has the advantage if you come back in two or three years to reedit your videos
everything still works as you have been used to. In some years your operating system changes, and so does the bundled video software.

Run a google search with:
top free gnu video editor for windows 64 bit

Mostly because (at least from my experience) most freeware editors are little better than WMM and constantly bother you to buy a full version.

Many never use Linux, Synaptic is for choosing and installing software in Linux.

Good point. But not valid for GNU software.
On most GNU and Linux versions there is no such thing like a full version.

Some of come with Windows versions too.

Re: Video Editing Software

I use Adobe After Effects CS5, It is confusing at first but you can find plenty of tutorials online to get you started, there are some very good after effects tutorials at www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/. once you get the hang of it you can do color correction, explosions, or pretty much anything you want as far as editing goes. I would also recommend Adobe Premiere, its good for cuting and putting together your video. While After Effects is better for editing the indvidual scenes, you put everything together in Premiere. Adobe software is always pretty pricey we got the whole Adobe pruduction Premium pack for 250$ on sale.

If you are willing to spend the money it is the best off the shelf software out there(my opinion).

This is true, (Cinelerra is a great program, for example) but Linux/GNU isn't exactly a common platform.
