you guys actually might have something here. but, id like to make a few suggestions.  first off, recording drums with a USB mic is not gonna work.so  an alternative would be to use drum sim software.  same goes for synth. next, for people who have recorded multi tracks, tempo and timing is key, accounting that i noticed lack of tempo in the drum tracks. just a few suggestions and tips  smile

also,  i can create just about any kind of album/single art you want. i also play guitar. i play mostly pop-punk, but can play a few blues scales  smile

Why won't a mic work?

The ideal thing when recording drums would be to have different mics on each drum - one on the bass drum, another on the snare, other in the hi-hat, other for the toms and one overhead. And ideally, all those mics should record in a pretty high quality, unlike most home use mics. Personally I found your recording very lacking in bass, but I thought of placing bass drum samples over the track or something like that, idk  tongue

Synth/keys are usually better connected directly from their input to the recording device imo, yeah. And obviously tempo is key, I suggest we record playing along to the song (in case of a cover) or to a metronome.  wink

I usually mix things high in treble. I can add more bass; I'll see what I can do.

I guess the audition is "Peace of Mind - Boston", if so - the acoustic sounds pretty nice but the electric guitar is kinda lacking in treble, though a very trebly sound might not fit with an acoustic sound and no bass or drums... Nice job though, adding that one to the list.

Ok  smile  You might want to take in mind this, as you can see in the chart a kick drum's punch is around 50-100 hz, and some cheap mics only record frequencies higher than 100 hz from what I've read.  hmm  Also I don't like being pushy, but you need to record the drums for "My Voice to You" - it's in the main post.  tongue

Mind if I inquire: where is My Voice to You from? It's a great song, but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web. Did you write it?

It's written by Dennis Yang, a not-so known artist designer45 found out about  tongue

On Noteflight. You WON"T be able to find it; it's a original.

Okay then, I'll consider "About you now" your audition since you apparently want it to be considered as so.

Now about that very recording, overall you're a pretty decent singer though in some parts (like near the end) you get a little off tune - could be fixed with some very subtle autotune on band recordings though. The recording quality kinda bothers me though, did you compress the audio in Scratch when uploading? There's also some popping in the recording but I don't know how can that be avoided. Good job still  smile

EDIT: For the popping you could check this out... Popping can be caused by singing "P"s or similar letters too close to the mic, and according to that page you can make a cheap pop filter with wire and nylon.  tongue

Also, tomorrow's the deadline for auditions.

Awesome.  big_smile  Did you play along to the song though? That'll be necessary since otherwise all instruments could get off-sync... Also you'll have to let me download it, downloads on that track are disabled right now.  hmm  If you really don't want other people to download it make it a private track and only let me view it ;P

My main computer has some real bad sound problems though, so I'll have to wait a little to record the bass (using VST drums maybe, until veggieman records the drums),  hmm

Okay, today (actually yesterday, 0:10 here  tongue  ) was the deadline for auditions so I'll start picking who plays what - if anyone's against any of this say so and why.

On the guitars, hpotter134 is definitely in, but I'm not sure about sydrodk since he plays kinda sloppily, though he said it's because of the mic.  hmm  So for now I'll keep hpotter on the guitar and me on bass (though I can record guitar too, if necessary).

On vocals I'm obviously keeping designer45 and leebee since they were the only ones that auditioned.  tongue  You two could switch between the lead and harmonies depending on the song, like designer suggested.

Veggieman will be the drummer, we've pretty much decided on that  tongue  He can play keys too, but apart from the piano in My Voice to You I don't think we'll need that much.  wink

I and veggie will mix the songs and jslomba can be the graphics guy (logos, album covers) if he's still interested  tongue

So, I'll update the main post with the definite member list  smile

So what's the next plan of action? Still waiting for drums?

Oh yeah, I had a question. You said you're a guitarist/bassist, then how'd you get such good drums in your songs, like construction zone and the others?

Using Addictive Drums. I know a bit of drums as well but I don't even have a decent drumset or any way to record it.  tongue

Yeah, still waiting for drums. Could use Addictive Drums or a click track as a guide in the meantime though - but this notebook doesn't have my musicmaking stuff and I still need to install them on my main computer.  hmm  I'll try to get a decent bass track by today though  smile

In that case I'll wait for you to record the drums for My Voice to You  wink  I'll still start building the track in REAPER though, using a click track. If you play along to the original song it'll be fine  tongue

Re: Frozen Coco - A Scratch Band

Okay I recorded the bass and started working a little with hpotter's guitar track. Here's some stuff, _bass is the bass track through compressors and EQ, _bassraw is the same track without effects, and _wip is the bass and guitar together, with the guitar having compressor, reverb and EQ added  big_smile

So we just need jslomba's drums, and the keys and vocals and we'll be done.  smile

What do we do once we finish this track? I'm sure advertising will be crucial so I say we think of some ideas for banners, or some other way to advertise (maybe on those magazines users make? It's been a while since I've seen a popular one though  hmm  )... After all we could consider this our debut single  tongue
