Why - I think - some people hate TV Shows but not YouTube Videos.

I hate the show Victorious. It's true.

But I love Smosh and nigahiga. I created a theory of why professional writers can't do better than teenagers and 20 year olds.

I think our expectations are raised when we watch TV. If we turn on a TV, we see professional stuff, and our expectations of the show is high. When we watch a slightly less professional video, our expectations are lowered, but then some have great stuff in them, and we love/like them better than TV Shows and movies and such.

What do you think? Is this the reason?

Re: Why - I think - some people hate TV Shows but not YouTube Videos.

Well, I think you're right in some ways. We are obviously looking for something of higher quality when we're watching a TV show, thus why we don't care so much if, for example, the camera work is of rather low quality in a Youtube video. But I think at the same time, the humor is different. Smosh and Nigahiga (both of whose videos I no longer enjoy, personally) has a very silly style - it's supposed to be ridiculous, and it's bizarre and funny as a result. Most comedy on children's shows is just plain bad now.

Uh, you're overcomplicating things. Here's the real problem: TV Shows = Not Funny, Youtube Videos = Funny. It's not rocket surgery

That's also a good point that's true but I'm not using that point.

Your point doesn't make sense. Why would you raise your expectations for television? There's a rule of funny - If it's not funny, it's not funny. Expectations have nothing to do with it. Just because you're expecting it to be better doesn't make the quality of the show lower.

Because I see TV as more complex and it's much richer and I just see it as more professional, and it's just not funny sometimes, so yes I agree with you, and yes I do think that the expectations play a part when i watch something. That's just me. And I'm asking: WHAT ABOUT YOU? See?

That's just an assumption. What makes you think some Youtube programming doesn't have as much production as some TV Shows, or that TV Shows are so 'professional'?

I know it's an assumption. What case are you making? I'm agreeing that some videos are much funnier and explaining I think expectation play a part. That's about it. What are you arguing about?

Seriously, if the commenters on YouTube are any indication of the people making the videos...Then TV is better.

Uh, arguing? Just because I have a different opinion than you does not mean I'm arguing with you. But I'm asking you, why're you putting higher faith in TV, just because you think it has more "professionalness" (for lack of a better word) ?

You're also forgetting about the age demographic too. Smosh isn't aimed at 10 year olds like a lot of the cartoons / shows you watch are or whatever the age demographic is.

iCarly is aimed at 12 year olds girls, and lots of children under 10. It doesn't appeal to you, but it appeals to them. Just like Smosh might appeal to you, but it doesn't appeal to a lot of others
