No, it isn't possible.

As far as I am aware the fora posts are stored using MySQL, which is basically a language that lets you create online tables with data inside them. So you could have a table with the columns username, post, quote, time posted, time edited, edited by. If you edit your post the "time edited" and "edit by" columns for that post will no longer be blank and when the web page pulls the info off of the table and displays your post, it will show that the post has been edited. Therefore it would be impossible to edit a post without the edit showing unless you have access to the table itself or a method of changing the post column without triggering an edit update. In short, no, it's not possible for a Scratcher though any of the Scratch team with access to the site's FTP and cpanal could potentially do it if they wanted to.
EDIT: moderators may of course have a special form for editing others' posts that let them choose if they want the edit to show their name or not, it's totally possible to do that with PHP and MySQL

You guys. So silly, not knowing things.
You guys missed a few VITAL details in how confusing it would be.
Let’s use the famous Person1 and Person2 for examples.
person1 wrote:
I think there should be friending, AND following, so people could watch others, but the could also be friends with them.
person2 wrote:

Well, what exactly would ‘being friends’ mean, then? It doesn’t make sense. I think that you need to go reset your brain, it must not be working.

person1’s changed post wrote: (before he saw person2’s post)
Actually I changed my mind. I think we should JUST have friends like we do now, only with the ability to accept or ignore them.
Now, not only would people be confused, not knowing that person1 had changed his post, but people now have a reason to be mad at person2 for misquoting.
If you TL;DR’d it, then pretty much, it would look like you were misquoting someone on purpose a lot, and people would be really confused.

Agreed. Showing that someone has edited his or her post helps reduce confusion and make moderation a bit easier.

The only way to do it is to be really fast. You have to delete your first post and repost what you wanted to say before anyone else posts...nearly impossible in misc.

No, YOU can’t.
Since you obviously didn’t read the thread that was FOR New Scratchers, it lists the differences. New Scratchers can’t edit posts. Scratchers can.

You can if you're a Scratcher.
So I am the only person who can't edit a post?

XD You’re totally missing the point.
Read carefully.
You know that thing on the left of the forum post with the persons username? Well under that it says New Scratcher, instead of Scratcher. You will be upgraded if you are generally active on the site, and forums. People with the status: New Scratcher will be unable to edit forum posts, post on the misc forums, have a signature, etc.
Ugh, you New Scratchers hate reading. There’s a specific topic for this.
Here is where you can find what restrictions you have, and you don’t become a Scratcher over time, I saw your post titled “Its been a year and still didn't get to the Misc” even though six months is only half a year, it’s not even based on time. Its your level of activity. Because you only have 16 posts in six months, you obviously haven’t been active.
Do you understand now?
See down there? |
