i propose a clean-up day

i propose that once every (put time here) we have a clean-up day.

on clean-up day all scratchers are recommended to go through their projects and delete the ones that they don't really like or they have no point in keeping on the website.

this will keep the scratch website decluttered allowing it to run faster.

this will also make it easier to find the good projects people make, and will leave them less open to cruel criticism because it's their best work that will be showing. i'm sorry if this has already been suggested, but i haven't seen it.

please respond with thoughts/ideas

Re: i propose a clean-up day

This is actually a good idea, considering that the ST already requests we delete our notifications regularly to help save space and improve the speed of Scratch. As long as no one has to delete a  project, I support this!

You can, just download them first, and upload them when people want them back! You don't have to delete all your projects, just any bad ones you might have.

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

yes, that is what made me think of this, and of course nobody HAS to delete anything, but it is easy to forget about old projects that you made on the spur of the moment, so this will be good for reminding people

same goes to Kimmy123. you can keep whichever (or all) of your projects that you choose. like you said, they are your projects to do with whatever you choose (that might not have come out right).

on a separate note i am thrilled that harakou likes my idea.

Re: i propose a clean-up day

I don't really think so...
Notifications are different. They are just messages. I wouldn't really want to delete even the stuff I made when I was an unknown newbie.  hmm
If people want, they can delete their projects, at any time.  wink

Re: i propose a clean-up day

Cant the user clean up their projects whenever they want to? Do we really need a day that is it does happen, will probably make people think that they have to do it.

And has it been said that projects slow the server down like notifications?

it's not just that they might slow the server down, they also detract attention from your better projects, and people are more likely to harshly criticize you if they see your bad projects rather than your good ones.

yes you can delete your projects anytime, but i've seen a lot of people with 50 pages of projects which makes me think that a lot of people never bother to. on clean up day users will be reminded to look for projects they wouldn't mind or would like to delete

So you think that by proposing a clean up day that people will be encouraged to delete their old projects. I see the logic in it, but does the scratch team really want to encourage it's users to delete projects that may not be their best but show how far they've come?

My first project on this account was an animation that I worked pretty hard on, I see three years on that its rather pathetic, but then if you compare it to other projects I've uploaded you can see how I progressed. I think that a person's projects allow people to look back on how the user started out and see how well they've progresed. Plus it means that people can give constructive critism and show how they can improve apon it.
