The reason we have a bunch of whiny, unsupportive users that only do very basic and uninteresting projects is this: You people try to have everyone stay. Only the people who are very undedicated to scratch try to quit for reasons such as not enough views. By trying to keep them on, you screw up the balance of dedicated users who pump out good stuff and stay for a while, so we have an abundance of talentless users who "hold their breath." By not giving these users what they want, and that means we have to ignore them, we can trim the fat, keep the dedicated users happy and flourish once again. So in short, don't spoil these users, it may seem hard to understand, but you really are hurting the site.
Edit: Thanks for reminding me of this paddle. If they are quitting for emotional reasons aside from fame and veiws, you should try to help them. But if all they do is repeat "i want fame or ill quit," ignore them and let them leave.

I'll stay on Scratch anyway. Until the time when I get too old and have other stuff to do with my life. Good points though.

we don't need three topics about this

You're forgetting that even if there was no intervention from us, the users who are quitting don't quit for real, and return a few days later. The drama causers and attention seekers (I could name a few famous examples from every year of Scratch besides 2007 but I won't)

Anyway, about this misunderstanding.
My fault. Whenever I get into an argument, I lose sight of what I'm actually arguing about. Then I just say random stuff that I dislike about the topic in general, which led to the negativity thing. Sorry for all of that, I tend to do that a lot in arguments I have no point of being in.

I'm a bit confused about what what is being suggested here. Can you explain further?

There was talk about people not liking the community anymore.

They don actually quit they come back like twenty minutes later. It's called a publicity stunt and it's obviously a new concept to you
Here are some examples of publicity stunts:
Britanny spears shaving her head
Lady gaga wasting money on dresses that scream im the center of the world
Or Disney stars who all seem to be getting music labels to get even more money

We need an audience now.

Lady gaga is actually really nice and she stands for great things like being yourself. So it's not a stunt with her. But with Brittany Spears, YES. AGRREED.

I'm all for being yourself but lady gaga overrates people's intelligence; they copy her and claim they're different. But when they all copy her nobody is.

Look, don't whine and quit because you are unpopular. I am intermediate but I believe I should have more recignition. But I don't quit. Scratch is all programming and having fun. As long as you have friends on here, it should be fun.

Yes, but thats the thing, they are attention seekers. If we don't give them that attention, they will a. Realize that isn't a good way to get attention and they try to make worthwhile projects or b. Quit for real and leave us alone.

Getting back on topic...yes, there are many people that go out of their way to try to call attention to themselves. In real life and also in online communities like Scratch. Some people seem to need the attention to feel valued - and occasionally this can lead to undesirable behavior, such as trolling or publicity stunts. Other times, it might be a cry for help. It's difficult sometimes to tell the difference and to know whether you should respond or not.
I think, though, that responding with a lot of drama is going to make the trolls and publicity seekers very happy. So perhaps a simple request of "is there anything I can do to help?" might help you figure out what the person is really looking for.

Yes, but what I'm saying is that if they want to whine and quit, LET THEM. If they do that they are clearly no worth to us as a community. Don't slather them with attention so they stay, that just keeps them coming back and whining at us.

Well yes. One thing I neglected to say is if it is emotional reasons for them quitting aside from attention/veiws you should try to help. But if it is only "i want famous" then you ignore them.

Well put.
I myself feel I should have more views, but I'm sure that tons of people do. And those who's first project is "I'm quitting" just wants attention. I'd know it was an emotional and personal reason if, say, Blade-Edge or coolstuff quit, because they are popular enough to not want to be more popular. I'm just using them as examples. Sorry if I offend anyone.

I agree. Those little scratchers will learn their lesson soon enough when they come back to see less fame than before.

Yeah.
I just wish it would actually happen.
