Commercial spammers like to use signatures for their activities, because signatures cannot be flagged as inappropriate, and are not marked as "new" when they are updated. It's very hard for the Community Moderators and the Scratch team to find & delete inappropriate signatures.
Therefore you can only have a personalized signature once you've earned the Scratcher title. (which sure is a tough job for spammers )
Now how do you become a 'Scratcher'? Just be active in the community. When you upload some projects, post a bit in the forums, post some comments on projects etc, the title will come after some time
Once you've become a Scratcher, you can create a signature like this:

In the Forums, click on "Profile" at the top, then "Personality" and fill in the signature box there. Once you're done, hit "Submit".

Scratch on!

My signature currently contains links to my Anti - Cyber bullying website and forum topic, should I change it?
It's fine.
I think it is still somehow scratch related. The reason why signatures are blocked is very serious. There were advertisements for "adult content" and commercial drugstore-webhsites etc.

Wow, that is bad....I think it is horrible that anyone would do that. If I see any, I will let you know.

I think that the amount of posts needed for a sig should be reduced to 10 to prevent spaming. I mean 50 posts is quite a lot.

I suggest that the requirement for a signature be changed from 50 posts to membership in the Forums for at least a month. The result of the 50 posts is now we have people leaving tons of useless posts just to earn the signature.

I like that idea - will stop a lot of spamming.

Paddle2See,
As I found out on scratch resources, most spammers don't mind to wait. They just create an account, and one month later they start spamming. I am afraid that this solution won't solve the problem we had...
Sometimes I think there are websites where spammers share url's, I had a spamming hype on Scratch Resources for a long time, I put the maintenance mode on for two weeks and the spammers were gone...

Thanks for the information, I was not aware of that. So a time limit may not solve the problem. However, this new "solution" has just created another problem - namely a large number of useless posts that clog up the forums. I think the cure is worse than the sickness!
Maybe the right to have a signature should be something that is only granted by an Administrator or a Forum Moderator. I would rather spend a few seconds evaluating a user than spending minutes and minutes reading useless posts. Of course, I have no idea if that option is even available in the forum software we are currently using. But I do think other solutions should be explored.

I agree this "solution" is causing another problem. Personally, I dislike the idea of granting signatures by moderators. Maybe the best solution is the easiest : disabling it.

Personally, I'd hate to see my signature go (as it's very distinct and lets me pick out my posts from a very long threat ). Maybe links in signatures that don't link to pages on the Scratch site could be blocked pending moderator approval, in addition to the use of a 50 posts and/or 1 month rule. It shouldn't be that hard to implement since comment boxes already do the same thing. Additionally the site could just block images in signatures until a moderator designates a user as "safe".

I even think this new problem (junk posts all over) will fade away, users won't be interested in signatures anymore. I think only those users which already had a signature before, but not yet 50 posts are posting junk posts because "they want it back". People who never had a signature, do you think they'll still be posting useless posts?

I do not think the problem will go away. One of the first things new users notice is that most people have a signature and they do not. So they will ask why they do not...and somebody will tell them...and then the posts will start.

How do you post a signature? I have posted over 50 times, and I would really like to know how to post a signature. Thanks!

Go to Forums home, then at the top there is a tab that says "Profile." Under that, click on "Personality" and customize your own signature.
