Re: Wow, I can't believe how dumb some spammers/emailjackers are.

I had a hacker and he installed naked images on my computer. Of girls. I didn't open them, I just can see the tiny thumbnail (they were on my desktop). Another ad I got was "See singles in Pennsylvania now! Just put in your address, your age range, and * (gender)" That was horrible. It wouldn't let me close. The worst is telling me to install a new mac app, when I have Windows! I also hate the (fake) windows defender warnings. I then open the real windows defender, it says 1 threat detected, and I close the fake one, and it says no threats detected.

Fake Antivirus? By any chance is this called Internet Security Essentials?
Don't use windows defender, use Avast or V3 Lite..

I hate everything that doesn't let you close out of it. It means I have to restart my computer if you want to get it off. Complete waste of time.  sad

Command-Option-Escape for a Mac closes it.

Yawn, another boring text signature. I should really make something better.

Really.
I just stumbled onto one of their sites saying that I was Ontario's winner for July 4th, and asking me to claim my prize within 115 seconds. It had 3 choices- one a best buy gift card, one a gift card to the apple store, and the third I didn't notice.

Heh, we don't have Apple stores in Ontario. We might be getting one in Kitchener
(or was it Waterloo?) next year, but...

  Discuss fails of this variety.

I went to the same site twice and both of them said: "You are our 1,000,000th visitor! Click here to claim your prize!"
It was funny cause you can't be the millionth visitor of one website twice.

I get lots of emails like this:
Dearmy  friend,
Congratultons!! You has won $10000000000 [I'm not American] in special prize draw [I never entered]. Send all your personal details to us and we will transfers the money to your bank account.
Thanks you,

^^ A bit like that, in bad English and so obviously faked that it's scarcely believable that people actually fall for it!

helltank wrote:

No, no, you're not being scammed at all. It's all due to quantum physics. Let me show you how.

You see,due to the complex laws of quantum physics, if you enter a website once and you're the one millionth visitor, you can enter it again and STILL be the one millionth visitor. What's more, when your friend enter the next day, he's also the one millionth visitor.

Then there's this thing called quantum entanglement. If the particles of a Window computer entangle with the particles of a Mac, they will become each other. Thus, you can receive Windows error warnings when you're on a Mac.

What's more, there's an exciting new sort of science which researchers are looking into. It appears that computers are sentient, because if you open two computers and go to a website, it will recognize you as the winner of its lottery on both, even if you don't have a webcam. Cool, right? Unfortunately, they aren't very smart, so if, let's say, your father were to go on that website on the other side of the world, they would log him as the lottery winner as well. Studies are still superficial so far, but there's a popular theory that it's because of his partially shared DNA.

However, the researchers have to be careful about where they store data. The quantum entanglement of computers have an odd tendency to share data too. I think cheddargirl's problem was that the computer determining the raffle decided cheddargirl won the raffle, but accidently shared it, again due to entanglement, with a credit card company's computer. However, this isn't perfect and the command "Take $1000 from raffle's credit card and transfer it to cheddargirl" got distorted, becoming "Take $1000 from cheddargirl's credit card and transfer it to raffle", causing the man to believe that cheddargirl had a credit card debt.

It's a completely new and exciting field of science, and scientists, trolls and con-men alike are fascinated by it, all shoving to become pioneers in that field.

You should discuss it with your science teacher someday.

What a well designed scam email!

I would definitely have fallen for that.

It has only 10 spelling errors! I would hardly know the guy's not American. Wow, scary nowadays huh?
