Making other Sound files work?

In Scratch, it seems, that one can use only .wav Files, for Sounds to play. What if we have Sound Files of other Types, that we want to use in a Project? Can they be converted?

It can use .wav and some .mp3. You could use a free utility like Audacity to convert other files, except for files from the iTunes Store, which can be converted with iTunes.
